I get the US's point in restricting AI chips to China because of "national security". But it's ok for them to send the most advanced chips to Saudi Arabia, and that not being any sort of national security risk? I didn't realize the Saudi government is the bastion of Western democracy compared to authoritarian China lol.

Yup, because it was always about trying to slow the development of another nation down. Didn't work though as it actually forced Chinese researchers and companies to develop things on their own, which they now have.

Rumors had circulated last week that the younger Guzmán would plead guilty to avoid trial for several drug trafficking charges in the U.S. after being extradited in 2023.

García Harfuch confirmed the family members’ crossing in a radio interview and said it was clear to Mexican authorities that they were doing so after negotiations between Guzmán López and the U.S. government.

He believed that was the case because the former cartel boss, whose lawyer said in January he had entered negotiations with U.S. authorities, had been pointing fingers at members of other criminal organizations likely as part of a cooperation agreement.

This is adjacent to a thought I have had about cannabis tourism. Why haven't we made like a cannabis centric mountain town that we can throw all the pot smokers and pot tourists at? They feel less awkward/ ashamed about smoking up everywhere and being high, families don't have to be as close to it, and we can create a weird little tourism subculture that actually glorifies it to some degree.
