Icon48 2025 RFA Offer sheet Compensation

https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article...-offer-sheets/

A few FAQs about offer sheets:

The compensation picks must belong to the team that is offer sheeting the player. They cannot originally belong to another team. Teams can reacquire their original picks if they traded them previously.

Picks will be from the 2026 draft or later.

The AAV for offer sheets over 5 years is the total $ compensation divided by 5.

Kind of strange that it goes from a second round pick and then jumps up to a first and a third round pick. Seems like somewhere in there it should go from second to first to first and third.

Seems like an awful lot for a guy with only 25 points in 74 games. Pretty much the same production level as Pospisil. Zary's numbers are better. I feel Bourque is a 'grass is greener' player on this board.

I don't think you need to go as high as 4.68.
I doubt Dallas matches even at 3.0 given the lack of proven record for the player.

I would not cross that 2.34 threshold of third round pick for Bourque.

I mean that's what Holloway was let go for. Has Bourque done so much to think that you should give up a 2nd round pick and a premium salary? Maybe he takes off in the second part of the playoffs...like Holloway did last year. But if he's still a healthy scratch....Imagine if Treliving had not only ponied up the second but also given Lazar 3 million when he made that deal? At this point Bourque could pop...but do you want to bet 4.68 for two years and find out he's more Lazar?

One team paints themselves into a corner last year and get's beat up with offer sheets...now everyone is hot to give up decent draft capital for some other teams underused commodity. I don't think we'll see value in an offersheet for like 10 years as teams will not forget last summer.

I can't tell from Cap Wages if the Flames have their own 2026 1st round pick or not.

He played 4th line minutes for the most part.

Not all production is equal.

Regardless, there is NO WAY IN HELL they should use their 2026 1st on an offer sheet, because there is a very real chance it could turn out to be a #1 overall, and there is this kid named McKenna who is kinda good.

Imagine putting an offer sheet together for someone like Rossi (or anyone), and having it cost you McKenna?

I would actually hand in my fan card and cancel my tickets. Forever.

Definitely not suggesting an offer sheet that costs a first round pick. I was wondering if the Flames even had their own 2026 1st - if we didn't, it would be a moot point. But you're right - even though they have their 2026 1st, it should still be a moot point.

Second and third round picks are the ones to hold onto. Can be used to address a current positional need with a young-ish player.
