If flames medical peoples give the green light on the injury to Mcqueen would walking out of the first round with Mcqueen-Reschny ever look good. Or if Mcqueen injury is dicey Martin and Reschny?
Some good options but i dont see some if those names being their at 18.

If McQueen is available with our first pick you run to the podium as fast as you can. However, I don't think it very likely he's there as I'm sure someone will pick him well before 18. Draft gods didn't like us at the lottery, I bet they still don't like us in this instance either.

That's a lot of good potential left on that board. Aitcheson - although not a center - is very tempting as well. I can see perhaps him dropping to the Flames, but I would be shocked if McQueen does. They are both likely gone, but at the same time, there have been so many risers.
Flames are going to get a good pick at 18.. and Go Toronto Go! (yuck, but seriously beat Florida!).

That’s an unusual mock draft. Every other draft I’ve seen has all of McQueen, Martin, and Aitcheson gone at 18, and most have Reschny gone too. Martin won’t last past 10.

It's actually an unusually inept attempt to copy and paste out of excel.
Here is the correct list of players left.
Roger McQueen
Cullen Potter
Braeden Cootes
Malcolm Spence
Benjamin Kindel
Cameron Reid
Cameron Schmidt
Cole Reschny

I have a feeling Brady Martin (right shot center) is going to go a lot higher than that, but he would be hard to pass up if he's available at #18. He reminds me of young Kadri the way he plays with his shot and how he likes to hit everything.

In this Mock Carter Bear, Lakovic and Martin are all off the board by 15...
However if the Flames can get two of McQueen, Reschny, or Kindel I'd be pretty happy.

Anybody more in the know has more info on McQueen? I remember a couple years ago a lot of people were drooling at the thought of tanking this season and being able to draft him. What happened? Was it all the back injury?

Injury + anyone over 6’2 is now regarded as a talentless oaf coasting on their immense size, as means of correcting any big=good bias.

Teams are scared about his injury. At this point it seems McQueen isn't sharing medical reports to NHL teams. In contrast last year Lindstrom provided medical reports to NHL teams when there was concerns with his back injury.
Maybe McQueen will do so at some point, but at this point he hasn't which will have some teams assuming the worst.
From McKenzie:
Quote:
The scouts are mostly ranking him now as if he’s a healthy player, which they acknowledge he most certainly is not. So, his No. 7 ranking, down just one spot from the pre-season, has a gigantic asterisk beside it.
“We have at him at five right now,” said one scout, “but it’s really just a placeholder until we get some clarity on his health.”
“If the draft were being held tomorrow, he would be a ‘no draft’ for us,” said another scout who also ranked him fifth overall on his talent and potential, when healthy. “Without a lot more information and seeing all medical reports, we’re just not comfortable taking that chance.”

I think its a bit of Cayden Lindstrom effect.
Heck of a player in a giant frame. But Injuries.
Also in the games he did play this season, he didnt dominate to a top 5 pick level. Hes not a great skater either.

The injury is a big part. For the Flames who picked Honzek a couple of years ago at a similar spot to where they are picking this year, I am not sure there is much of an appetite for a lot of people to take a chance on another tall player with injury issues.
Another knock on him is that he is one of the older players in the draft and missed being eligible for the 2024 draft by 2 weeks, which at that age can be a big difference in development. He'll be 19 when next season starts. There seems to be a few later birthdays in this draft though, Viktor Eklund being another,
Blue Chip Prospect uploaded a profile video the other day. I don't know much about the creator, but he seems pretty dialed in. He is pretty high on McQueen it seems, but points out a few of his flaws.
NHL comparisons to Vilardi or Hertl, or a combination of.
