Less questionable but not by much; he plays in the AHA division which is the doormat of NCAA Div-1 Hockey. The AHA has ten teams with over 25 players on each roster and exactly two have been drafted in the NHL. One of them is Hoskins and the other 2019 6th round pick of the Kings Braden Doyle. Doyle spent three seasons in Hockey East, one with Boston University and two with Northeastern. Was a bit player in all three of those seasons. He dropped down to the AHA for his senior year.
The good news for Hoskins is that he's now transferred to Merrimack in the much more competitive Hockey East. Merrimack is by no means a powerhouse but it'll be a huge step up in competition for him.

One of their area scouts had a fondness for the player based on repeat viewings and his progression over the season.

Spokane wins 6-2 tonight, evening up the series at 1 game apiece. Basha had 1a on a goal by Lindstrom, and was -1.

Medicine Hat beats Spokane 6-0, to go up 2-1 in the series. Basha is named third star, with a beauty of a goal, and was +3, putting him at 3gp/2g/1a/3pts,+3, 0 PIM. Lindstrom was first star, with 1g, 1a, and a +2, for 3gp/2g/2a/4pts,+2, 4 PIM.

Seriously, all I see is Jake Guentzel when I watch him.

For some reason I had it in my head that Basha was under-sized, but I was wrong or had him mixed up with someone else. He's a pretty fascinating prospect. Really excited that he's in the system.

From limited views he appears to have the ability to make plays with his feet, while independently manipulating the play with his hands. This is not a common trait as most players resort to some scripted response to what they see on the ice and Basha, again in limited views, appears to process and operate at a more instinctive level. The clearest example of this in the game today is obviously McDavid, and I’m not comparing the players, but if this is a part of what the Flames saw from him in camp, he could certainly be a find.

Ya, he has always had the head on a swivel thing. Way before other kids got that ability. He was a really good soccer and basketball player as well with making plays. Always top 5 smallest players on his team until he hit puberty. Still not huge, his parents aren't giants.

He looked very good in the second half of last night's game I watched. He makes plays happen. He's not undersized but he's not big, either. Goldilocks, he is.
Also, St. Martin has looked pretty good in my limited viewing; the Panthers made a nice pick at the tail end of last year's 6th round.

Some people are just born with certain God-given abilities that separate them from others. What is done with those abilities is as important as the gift itself. Sometimes being the smallest is a blessing as it demands a commitment that might not be required of others. Hopefully you don’t encourage him to give basketball another shot…..
