That would be awesome if they pulled a Nashville or Boston.

Call me an optomist or whatever but I don't see anything they're doing very impressive. Vegas outplayed them badly but its 2-0 so this series is gonna be tough. Stars/Jets seem to be on another level as do the Leafs/Panthers. Haven't watched as much of the rest.

Game 1 the Oilers were, IMO, clearly the better team.
Game 2 - Vegas was the better team in regulation, but overtime it was all Edmonton.
Hard to look back at games 1 and 2 collectively and say Vegas is outplaying them badly?
This just wreaks of the same chatter as last year on this board, minimizing what they're doing because things are breaking their way. We are for the second straight playoffs seeing teams having a really difficult time with the Oilers speed and star power, and for whatever reason having a very difficult time penetrating the slot.
As of this moment, my concern level for a repeat run is very high.

Yeah, we can all complain about the non call right before the goal, but Edmonton also hit the post on a couple sure goals in OT.

They've got 2 guys that can take them a long way. Shouldn't be surprising to anyone anymore. Yeah, they aren't a great all around team, but having superstars like that will cover a lot of warts. Also, while they haven't won it all yet, they've been winning rounds for at least a few years now. Clearly they've made progress in their playoff runs. LA should have done everyone a favor this year but they totally blew it.
I am not convinced the Oilers get past Dallas or Winnipeg -- but would it be shocking if they did? Probably not.
Again, we have to ask the hockey gods to do us a solid these playoffs. Not sure what form that comes in.

Edmonton Oilers are your 2025 Stanley Cup Champions.
It’s not a matter of if, but how many.
It’s better to just get used to the idea. Fighting it will only cause pain.

Edmonton got the momentum after that stupid penalty by Roy. But before that it was all Vegas.

I think we underrate the Oilers defense a fair bit here.
I made a post earlier in this thread that had the Knights having the advantage on the d-core, but was still critiqued for not giving enough of an advantage to Vegas.
However the Oilers as a team have played pretty stout team defense for most of the past two seasons.
Guys like Bouchard, Nurse, etc are prone to pretty big brain farts, but they tend to play solid defense 90% of the time. It's like TJ Brodie...they are good most of the time but they make 1-2 plays a game that are just glaring.
Over the last two seasons they are:
55.8% xGF at 5v5 (2nd)
2.39 xGA /60 at 5v5 (7th)
3.02 xGF / 60 at 5v5 (1st)
2.68 GF/60 at 5v5 (6th)
2.41 GA/60 at 5v5 (14th)
The weakness has been goaltending, but as long as Pickard can give them average goaltending they are going to be a tough out for any team.
Issue is Kings blew it when they had them on the ropes due to bad goaltending in games 1-4, and Oilers have adjusted.

Yeah we are going to have to accept that they are going to get to the conference final at the very least as the Knights don't appear to be up to the task. Hopefully the Stars can take care of business against the Jets quickly and without losing any key players to injury.

I'm holding on to hope based on the fact that they regressed this year by almost 3% xGF% compared to last year when they topped the league. They were a better team last year and it wasn't enough to get the job done so here's hoping the older, slower, less dominant version of the Oilers falls short too.
They've also always been a streaky team. They're riding a high but they're still a team that has the potential of playing lottery bad for long stretches and has in each of the past two seasons.

They've been doing a great job of blocking shots and getting out of the zone quickly.

One cup 10 years after winning the McDavid lottery, their 4th 1st OA in 6 years, isn't so bad all things considered. Crosby's got 3, it could be worse.

Hopefully Pietrangelo came back too early from the flu and was in a fever dream out there. That was a shockingly abysmal performance at times.

Overtime was all Vegas until the 5 minute major. The shots were 8-1 or something like that, and Vegas had several really good chances

But sadly alas they didn’t convert any of those glorious chances. Just add it to the list of fortuitous things the Oilers have had go their way since Game 3 of round 1. Which is why people are freaking out. Like me.
The only bad things that’s happened for them is the bad goal LA scored late to chase Skinner. And now that all world back up Pickerd seems destined to lead them to a championship. Ugh. Ugh. Ugh.
