They do not need a RW. On RW they have Thompson, Quinn, and Tuch. Their gap is RD, so in that regard Andersson would be a good target for them.
Andersson's contract would give them a year to sort out their salary cap and then figure out if they can give him a raise when Clifton and Lafferty comes off of the books....
Dahlin-Andersson
Power-Samuelsson
Bryson-Bernard-Docker
Clifton
That is a really solid looking D group. The problem is that I do not think Andersson waives to go there.

The other layer to this is the Dahlin-Bryan combo has been solid.
I think it is more likely the Sabres move one of their young talented wingers. They have a glut. Quinn, Peterka, Benson, Ostlund. I could see the Flames having interest in Byram but I don’t think they have the pieces Buffalo might want.
I’m having a hard time seeing a fit here honestly and it’s likely why the Flames and Sabres weren’t able to work out a cozens trade. For Buffalo, there’s too much risk with Andersson, and I’d be a bit surprised he would waive to go there.

I dont see a fit for Rasmus to the Sabres. Hes a pending UFA and I can't see him being willing to sign there.
Senators, Habs and Dallas make the most sense to me.
Rasmus+pospisil for dumba + bourque + bischel
Rasmus for hage + 2nd
Rasmus for beck + flames 1st
Rasmus for greig + nordberg + 2nd

Would put detroit as well.
My surprise prediction is he ends up in sj or Chicago. Both teams have reasons to start improving, both have a pile if draft capital in this draft. They could both give a first, second, third in a trade still have picks in those rounds and a top three as well.

My prediction is still SJ for Rasmus. I got a big nerd-on for Filip Bystedt in a Flames jersey.

My perfect offseason would be Andersson traded to Chicago or Nashville or san jose. All of them have multiple firsts, seconds, thirds.
Come out of draft with three firsts, two seconds, two thirds.
Offer sheet Bourque( this is granted dallas isnt interested in andersson in a trade)
Now it doesnt have to be Bourque but whoever they think has top six Center potential, and can be had for a second next year.
Sign, trade make some type if deal even if it means using one if our plethora of wing prospects who can eat some of the defence minutes but still has room to grow.
Explore trade options for Coleman. Love the player but we will have six by rough count wingers coming for his position next year.
Line up:
Huby-kadri-sharkbait
Zary-mysterycenter-coronato
Farabee,frost,klapka
Lombo-Backs,gridin
Weegs-parekh
Mystery defender-Bahl
Bean-brewster
Depending on who the mystery center is if you get any of the buy in from this year, the expected improvement from some players( fully expect better seasons from frost farabee) this could be a very good team of vets and youth.
Really shows what a logjam of lw we have. With Coleman we have 4 of 8 spots filled long term. I am fine with trading some if our log jam at left wing for established players as long as they are in the 25 under bracket.

You just said it. There's millions and millions of reasons for him to consider it. Having said that, this feels like speculation borne of too much time to kill before free agency starts. The prospects of a return seem very unlikely.

Bennett back in Calgary does not seem like a good fit at all. Last time he was here, his career was going nowhere. Why would he want to risk landing in that situation again?
Why would the Flames want to commit big money and for a long term for Bennett when he could return to the way he played for the Flames before? With the hundreds of players they could go with, why pick a guy who badly underperformed last time he was with the franchise?
Bennett will do well somewhere, but I can't imagine he will be in Calgary again.

Bennett is the identity of the Panthers now. Can’t see them letting him walk.

No matter where the Florida pick ends up, I would love it if Conroy found a way to package those picks to move up in the draft if there is a high upside center available in that spot.
Really hoping the flames trade Andersson this offseason. Most importantly, I want to continue to see a progression towards young players getting opportunities at key roles next season. Trading Andersson without looking for a free agent signing to replace him would be a good step in that direction.

I wonder if the results of the draft just made the SJ draft pick more available. If Schaefer goes to the Islanders, does that put the #2 pick on the trade block? How close does Andersson with an extension (sign & trade) + 18OV get you?

Not sure where to post this. But ran into Miromanov downtown yesterday and he was walking with a noticeable limp. Hopefully that means he will also have a bit of a resurgence next season!

I don't get the love for Bystedt. He's ok. Seen a little bit of him....has Honzek vibes. Good around the net, big, skating is meh, scores sometimes with shot from right dot.

I like his skating. He's not a north south guy but his lateral movement is really really good. And he has that Monahan level of awareness to find the soft spots in front of the net. And he's big, and he works hard. At 21 years old he's an optimal target for the Flames who need centers and has skill paired with net front. They need that.
I think he's a really great puzzle piece to the picture Conroy is trying to make of this team.

Flames looking to bridge Connor Zary
Another team with some house cleaning to do in the way of RFAs is the Calgary Flames, and after signing Matt Coronato to a seven year, $45.5 million contract last week, forward Connor Zary is the most significant name in need of a new contract for GM Craig Conroy.
According to a team source, the Flames’ preference is a bridge contract for the 2020 24th overall pick. Coming off of a relatively underwhelming 27 points in 54 games, there is still uncertainty whether Zary is going to be a center at the NHL level. There is also internal concern over all the injuries that Zary has dealt with, making more sense for the team to avoid a long term commitment. According to the source, a three year contract in the $3 million range (similar to that of Alex Newhook with the Montreal Canadiens) is what the team could be looking for.
Aside from Zary, defenseman Kevin Bahl and forward Morgan Frost are set to become RFAs. I’m not sure which way the wind is blowing with either player’s next contract, but I did hear that Conroy met with the latter’s agent, Darren Ferris, in Texas over the U18 World Championship a few weeks back. The two sides did not dig in on specifics, but I’m told that the player’s camp was said to be “reasonable” as to what Frost’s next contract could look like.
Frost, who will turn 26 in a week’s time, was acquired from the Flyers (along with Joel Farabee) a few months ago. He is coming off a two year contract that carried a $2.1 million AAV.
