By no means is Atkins doing a great job
But
1) we overpaid for starting pitching because we had hitters to compete ... overpaid is questionable paid market to get durable pitchers
2) traded prospects to acquire relievers and position players
3) now we are building depth again
I think goal is a continued competitive team. We are till in it. Long window is goal
Pitching will get cheaper and we will have money soon i feel
Difficulty is attracting talent to toronto

Yeah, this is the weakest AL East in a long time. NL West is the murderers row division this year, and in fact right now there isn't even an AL East team in any of the 3 wild card spots. Would have been a good year to make a run.

The Jays were ranked near the bottom in prospect ratings at the start of the season.
The Jays haven't really developed a player or pitcher in Shatkins era.
Nimmala might be something but he strikes out like crazy. Tiedemann is the new Pearson, always injured.
The team is poorly built. And that includes the farm system.

I follow the system up and down... I think you ned to follow more rather than read the rankings. I live and die by that. mark it down.
Roden will be something... he is not high on list etc. We keep calling guys up no? where was francis on prospect rankings? horwitz same etc?
Prospect rankings tend to skew towards to young high tool high upside. Nimalla is an exception
We don't have a lot of that but we have depth. Also lot of injuries
Our upside on the arms is there.
this is just my point of view and feel strongly about it. rankings will disagree i been watching baseball for 30 years and read alot (too much time on internet for 20 years lol)
You mention tiedemann.. he is one arm (big name everyone know). we have barriera. maroudis, yesavge (big name), stephens, rojas, perez, etc etc.
Where was fluharty... i had him on the radar. lot more!

It was a head scratcher that he survived two offseason where most would be punted. But I don’t think anyone has immunity when it comes to bad performance especially as the team is run by a corporation. It’s just not possible. There is no question he is guarded by Shapiro but he can only shield him for so long. No chance he survives beyond this season if they don’t make it past the second round.

I personally don’t believe for a second this team isn’t attractive to free agents based on being north of the 49th. If you look culturally at Dominicans they love Toronto (there are about six cities they culturally love because they gave Dominicans a chance, Toronto being one). Sure the border thing is annoying but giving up millions for it? No chance. There have been rumblings forever about displeasure among players about management. It was never clear if that was the coaches or upper management but at this point it seems it’s about the management upstairs. The signs with how Vlad was treated and even how Bo has never had an offer show that management does not have good communication with players. I’m again pointing the finger upstairs because everything stems from there and that’s the most logical place.

Not just money, if I had to put up with spending extra time at the border to sign with a team who I felt had a good chance to win I would gladly take it over signing with a US team who I felt had less of a chance.
Maybe now that they have Guerrero signed long term it will help. We already know the uncertainty scared off players like Burnes.
That's with hopefully a new management group.

Sure, MLB experts stated the Jays farm system prior last seasons trade deadline was near the bottom.
I just checked, they are currently ranked 27th.
"The Toronto Blue Jays farm system isn’t in a great spot.
On Friday, MLB Pipeline released their pre-season farm system rankings, with the Blue Jays ranking 27th in the league. It’s a slight drop from where they ranked in the mid-season update, 24th."
That's from MLB pipeline
I would also echo, the team is built poorly, until they make a front office change, they are going no where.

Well. I'm not too concerned about missing his bat in the lineup. Can't get much worse. It's funny looking at his reference page. He's currently at a 0.8bWAR. On pace for 4WAR. This is where defensive metrics lose me. Because I can't remember a single play he's had this year where I thought it was exceptional. I remember a couple errors and misplays. And he's hitting .195 with and OPS below .600. I don't see a scenario where he is worth 1 more win than an average 2nd baseman.

I'm more embarrassed about having no bench infielders because they have 7 outfielders than I am about whether or not Gimenez plays.

Bases loaded, no out.
Angels pitcher then needs just 11 pitches to strike out the next three Jays.
