Cool, cool, the new pope is an American who helped cover up sex abuse scandals in the Catholic Church.

Quote:
In 2000, Prevost allowed Father James Ray, an Augustinian priest, to reside at St. John Stone Friary in Chicago. Ray had been suspended from public ministry since 1991 due to credible accusations of sexual abuse of minors. Although the priory was close to a Catholic elementary school, Prevost did not notify the school administration about Ray. The Augustinians noted that Ray was assigned a monitor while at St. John Stone. Ray was moved to a different residence in 2002 when the US Conference of Catholic Bishops adopted stricter rules for handling priests accused of abusing minors.

[...]

Prevost has faced criticism from advocates for clergy abuse survivors regarding his handling of sexual abuse allegations during his leadership in the Augustinian order and in Peru. The advocacy group SNAP has alleged that Prevost failed to act against abuse claims involving Richard McGrath, a former president of Providence Catholic High School, allowing him to remain in his position despite longstanding accusations.

The Catholic Church appears to have chosen a relatively young Pope who is, in terms of immigration, gun control, climate change and racism, an explicitly anti-MAGA Pope. If so, that's a win.

Trump’s going to be mad that he’s not getting attention today because of this. Cue military invasion of Greenland.

An American Pope should be called something like Pope Bubba I.

Like they'd ever let coloured people touch white kids.

I find it interesting, and I do hope he does a lot of good, but I also really dont care much about the 'Giant Hat Brigade.'

Guy wanders around with a golden staff, a hat that would make a mariachi band blush, enough jewelry and rings that pimps and rappers would tell him to tone it down, and a cape?

He's going to get a Tesla Cybertruck Popemobile. You know it. I know it. And it'll be made of Gold.
