lanny Mayoral Candidate mails out survey with question regarding the Arena.

And he misspells the Calgary Flames as the Calgary Flamers.

Especially humerous as the Candidate, Jeromy Farkas, is Gay himself.

Okay, spelling 'error' aside, which I take issue with just as a general rule, to what end? What purpose does this question serve?

This is a 'done deal.' Whether we like it or not I think this one is etched in stone.

Move along.

I think we all know its designed to make everyone upset. It's very selfish and self serving.

This type of #### needs to get out of Canadian Politics. We have real issues we need to be talking about. We don't need to keep taking steps backwards.

Probably an effort at audience polling to understand what topics are “weak points” in the perception of his opponent

Exactly what I was thinking.

Dude? This looks like shallow political pandering. And to what end? To try and throw feces at Gondek? You dont need to.

Like it or not, the deal has been made, the ground has been broken. Kicking and screaming its getting done.

The end game is to remind people who already don't like his opponent that they don't like his opponent. There isn't any action coming out of this outside of working people up.

We dont like his opponent. Tiny problem though. Newsflash: We don't like him either.

He is Scut Farkus from "A Christmas Story"

Yeah, how dare someone question a politician's actions?

Anyone bringing up Danielle Smith's 280K red carpet replacement should be banned.

This is so stupid. What does he want. Cease construction? Have the Flames leave the city? We need a new arena. It is underway. Leave this topic alone FFS!!!

People are overthinking this. Nothing is going to happen to the arena deal. He’s not trying to stir anything up.

He’s literally just taking the temperature of people to see what makes sense to focus on in his campaign. The election is five months away.

I think it is the part about "all proceeds going to the Flames ownership group" that is meant to provoke a negative response. You see this sort of thing often when questions are asked in such a way to steer the responses in a certain way. All politicians do it.

That part could have been left out and the question would be the same but without an emotional catalyst. If you are going to add that detail, then add the other details of the deal that have civic benefits. Maybe people don't think the benefits are worth the price, which is fair, but they are still there.

I always ask this question: could you have asked your question in a different way to get the answer?

We hire politicians to make decisions. I think arguing against the decisions your opponents have made is how politics should be done. Incumbents run on their record and their opponents run on what they would/will do differently.

I'd way prefer that to innuendo about hypotheticals that might happen in the future.

And?

Almost everything you will criticize the government for is also a done deal. How is this any different? And yeah, I know this sounds like a conspiracy theory, but yeah he/she probably does want to criticize his mayoral opponent. But again, so?

If Nenshi brings up Smith's 280K carpet replacement are you going to call him out for bringing up past decisions a politician made? Or is this because you guys support the arena? Which ironically you just need to check that first box to let the candidate know.

Shovels are already well in the ground.

Time to just suck it up. Who knows, maybe they'll come around to enjoying a world class entertainment venue that bolsters activity in the east side of downtown and puts this city back on the map.

Yeah, the funding model wasn't ideal. But ownership are hardliners who've put this thing off for decades despite multiple attempts and threatened to take the franchise elsewhere. So in the end it's better to pay a little extra and get this thing done than be sitting around playing four franchises in an ancient saddledome that can't house any major acts until the roof came down.

Crying after the milk is spilled is, with all due respect, r#####d.

He isn't trying to 'gauge the opinion' of constituents. The statement is wildly misleading and even inaccurate - he is trying to stir emotions.

"How do you feel about you paying for an arena, and the owners getting all the profits?"

Yeah, that's trying to gauge opinions.
