It would be awesome if just once one of these teams decides to test the theory of continuing to play offence once they establish a multi goal lead.
Instead it’s the defensive shell with Tobias logic. It’s failed for everyone else. But it just might work for us.

Stop giving the coach’s socks to knobby between periods!
Just to make sure that I get it. A career ahl goalie. A not great D. 17 shots on net?
And maybe make sure if you do give up the socks, don’t have the game plan inside!!

In the interest of avoiding the leafs and oilers sportsnet pep rally, just watched the post-game interviews on the knights website- cassidy, saad and stone. Stone surprisingly lackadaisical, like they played ok, just 'execution in the neutral zone' was the problem. Saad a little more critical saying they didn't play up to their standards in the second and third.
Cassidy, obviously, with a more realistic take, but still chalked it up to taking penalties, then top guys are tired, then oilers got a lucky one. Did say the oilers were better tonight. VGK has been there before so they are obviously not panicking but, as somebody who wasn't able to watch the game, how in the blue hell does vegas get 1 shot on net on AHL tweener pickard? And nurse/bouchard and their clown show? I get McDiver and Deutchebag are hard to handle, but they should be feasting on the rest of that roster. What is a bit concerning is scrubs like Brown scoring.
Obviously tweedledum and tweedledee will get their points, so seems like you need to be scoring at least 4 on the oilers with proper defense. Knights obviously have more poise than the Kings.
Dammit, this is just feeling like last year all over again. I was honestly expecting the knights to win 6-1 tonight. What happens after that in the series who knows, but losing convincingly at home is an awful start.
Of all the teams left in the playoffs, at this point it's Dallas and Florida that give me hope against the north alberta pigs.

I've already resigned myself to the fact that this is the year the Oilers win and the year I stop watching hockey. They were a crap team for most of the regular season and were propped up by 3on3 play. They were minutes away from being swept but some divine force reversed that spell. They're just a team of destiny. There is no stopping their luck. It is what it is. It's been swell hockey. But I think I'll cheer for a sport that doesn't celebrate sheer dumb luck.

I am still extra furious at the kings, seeing this score tonight. F them. The grease pigs were vulnerable in that first series and Skinner was terrible. Ripe for the picking. A couple bad kings gaffes and the oilers gained confidence and momentum, which seems to be continuing into this series. And their fake IR players (scumbag gambler, frederic, klingberg) are getting more comfortable.
It is still pickard in net though. And dumbnell and crosseye are the top pairing. Their forwards might be providing some depth, but that defense is TERRIBLE.

Well, probably staring down a few options.
1. Gentlemen's sweep is still on the table
2. A year like last, hanging on by our fingernails
3. Dallas stays healthy (or gets healthier) and past the Jets
4. End of days

Feels like option 4.
The brain says they've regressed in every area since last year except Draisatil's play and there is no way they can go the distance.
The heart says Pickard goes 16-0 and they tie the 88 Oilers for least playoff games to win the cup.

Last thing in the world we want is the Oilers winning the cup, but I keep telling myself what if the Oilers winning the cup is what Canucks(Flames) need to go win their cups.
Like would you take an Oilers cup win this year if it means Flames win 2 cups in next 10 years

It always seemed unlikely a team with two generational talents wouldn’t win a cup. I’ve moved on from denial to acceptance. Oilers winning won’t change my life one iota. It’ll still be a crap city and a crap organization.

No, because we all know the Oilers cup will overshadow the Flames no matter what. HNIC, SN, etc will all be like "sure the Flames have 2, but how about that magical run like no other for The Oil in 25..." or some other ####.

I get that sentiment that might prompt the Flames organization to build a contender, but more realistically, we'll have to accept that McDavid will almost certainly re-sign long term and play out the rest of his career with them, which guarantees that the road to a Stanley Cup will always go through Edmonton, because as long as he and Draisaitl are healthy, they will remain competitive. The bitter truth is no longer when they will win, but how many. They just seem like a team of destiny with a very strong belief that they can.
Hoping for a different scenario to play out and some other contender finally shows up (looking at you Dallas).

I think teams get so caught up in thinking they have to stop McDavid that they just aren't able to play their own game for 60 minutes which is what we saw with the Kings. They would start games playing Kings hockey and once they got a lead they played scared to get burned by McDavid which is exactly what happens when you take your foot off the throttle against the Oilers. It's just crazy that a team can continue to get behind multiple goals nearly every game and win, but as long as teams keep reverting to passive hockey trying to hold leads or keep the game close, it's going to continue. The one thing about the Panthers and Maurice is that they are cocky and not scared of the Oilers which is why they handled them but even they were guilty of taking their foot off the gas after winning the first 3 games.
