The original Harvey THAT mactavish tore the tongue out of was the bomb.

Never seen theatrics that size before by a mascot. Don't know what THAT costume does for the man or woman wearing it but I'd love the opportunity honestly.
I wish they had open tryouts PTOs to wear it for a few games because I'd likely get arrested with the stunts I'd pull.

Kudos to the folks that wear Harvey and try getting the library going.

Hopefully the new building will be different

So THAT wasn't the original Harvey, that was a younger guy that took over when Grant Kelba retired in 1999. THAT Harvey was an absolute nut job. Running around on the arms of chairs, clinging onto the hand rail leaning over the edge of the 200 level, walking on the glass and occasionally falling.

Quote:
Kelba says it’s been fun watching Harvey from afar, and remembers the mascot’s infamous run-in with Edmonton Oilers coach Craig MacTavish in 2003 when the coach ripped the pup’s tongue out. He was already retired by then.

In Kelba's time as Harvey, he remembers playfully taunting the Oilers over the years, blowing them kisses for example—but always he stayed a stick distance away.

“When Harvey’s tongue got pulled out, I laughed and laughed. I was like, ’Wow, they finally got him’.’”
Would love to know who took over, and what the succession has been like since

Hold on. How is The Littlest Hobo not on that list? He even did a bit about it.

edit to add: 2nd Harvey (aka nutjob Harvey) was a blast. He was often more entertaining than the games. It was great to see how excited kids would get when he was around. You never knew what he was going to do which kept you on the edge of your seat. Which is a good thing because the hockey games at the time were often real snoozers. If he is not elected to the Hall it's time for torches and pitchforks.

Glenn Street (who owns a mascot creation business now) also played Harvey, but not sure if it was Nutjob Harvey.

It does appear to be, if you can believe it. I have an 88 year old uncle who can still cut a rug so I know it’s possible!

Was that Nutjob the one who did this?

Apparently my parents used to live across the street from the guy who was the original Harvey. They tell me they'd see him lugging the costume in and out of his car all the time, but it took them months to get the courage to ask him about it one day, they didn't know if he'd get pissed about them compromising his identity and breaking some sort of mascot unwritten code lol.

I happen to know who the current Harvey is. Super nice guy but you would never guess. Quiet and humble and never the center of attention. I didn't believe him at all until he showed me what was in his bag. Like finding out Bruce Wayne is Batman.
