Penn St. plays a very high tempo style. Misa should fit in well. Hobey Baker top 10 finalist, Aiden Fink is returning for his junior season, so Misa could have an elite college winger on his line

Someone probably has answered this, but when does drafted and unsigned prospects going college route become UFA? Is it still end of 4th year of college?
So if a CHL player starts college career later than if they went usual USHL to college, is it possible that the NHL has their rights longer?

Also, other Calgary (Royals) player Nathan Free is committed there. Was leading scorer with Brooks Bandits.

If available I'd like to see the Flames grab Free with their 7th, he used to be scared of his shadow but has shown far more jam last season, he's a very skilled RS winger

I like this move for Misa, both because it's good for his development, and because he was really getting screwed over in Brampton with his ice-time and linemates. He could've finished easily in the top-10 in OHL scoring.

Still had a good season ?
Any reason why they screwed around with him?

Has it just always been the case that the NCAA is “better for development” than the CHL?
I always thought the two systems were pretty comparable in terms of overall development.

I've shared in other threads, but in his D+0 year Michael Misa (projected top 3 overall) put up 3P in 4GP in the playoffs when intensity ramped up.
Luke Misa, who is 16 months older in his D+1 year, put up 12P in 6GP in the playoffs.
I still believe that Misa is going to be a hidden gem C for us, especially as a 5th round pick.

They play less so more focus on practice and working in better gyms in season.
Probably more structured setting. Developing your body and habits is just as important as the on ice stuff.

Michael Misa had a terrible playoffs, he was pointless in three of his four games and was -10 in those four games.. but you're putting way too much stock into a insanely small sample.

He had a good season, with 85 points in 67 games- problem with that, is he finished his 2023-24 season with 81 points in 66 games. No progression there.
Problem was that he was left off of the top line with Martone and Rehkopf, in favor of C Angus MacDonell- at least, for the most part. When MacDonell was out with an injury for the better part of November and December, Misa was put in his place and was producing at nearly a 2 ppg clip in his absence. When MacD returned, Misa was demoted instantly. After that it was only spot duty on the top line, and he spent a bit of time towards the end of the regular season with Rehkopf. Either way, he showed his schnutz in the playoffs, leading the team with 12 points- the next highest was Martone, with 9.
As for the reason, I can only speculate:
1) Misa is an exceptional transitional contributor and defensive player, so perhaps they wanted him matching up against other teams' best players.
2) A poster said earlier this year that they read an article that surveyed other teams' GM's to ask what they thought of each teams' draft picks last summer. One GM stated that, while we lucked out with the quality of our picks, we chose a few players that had attitude problems. I look at Mews and Misa as the possible culprits in that scenario, though I can't prove it- all conjecture at this point, but there has to be a reason they fell so far, other than the concerns with size.

Good for Misa. I watched him live against Windsor a couple months ago and I think he has a real shot at being an NHLer. I gave my scouting report on him a couple months ago, but this guys two-way game is really strong. First guy over the boards on the PK, good motor, quick feet, good hands. I saw a future Paul Byron honestly.
Not a superstar, but a real good find in the fifth round
