Yes they are traitors. Alberta is part of Canada, and Smith isn’t an empress or a Queen. She’s just a regular, less than ordinary dip##### elected to office. Alberta does not belong to her.

She said she doesn't support separation. You guys are more emotional than teenage girls. The only thing treasonous is trying to stifle one of the biggest industries in our province and country. One that can significantly benefit everyone. To have your own country working against the prosperity of Alberta is 100% a fair concern and was basically the majority of her address. Ottawa should be doing everything it can to assist Alberta, not limit it.

Not that I want to drag Federal politics into this. I have seen some talk online that had PP and CPC won the election, even with a minority, there would be more 'coast to coast' feeling of unity; no Alberta separatist talk.
We'll never really know but it is a hypothetical question.
Trying to think back to the 'peak' of Quebec separatism in the mid 90's, Chretien Liberals had gained a majority. Not sure how much that had to do with federalism, but I'm sure it was influential at the time.
If Pierre wants to entertain leadership going forward he can speak against this, especially with him getting a foot back into good'ol Alberta all of a sudden.

The height of Quebec separatism in the early-mid 90s peaked as a direct result of the former Progressive Conservative government of Brian Mulroney failing to pass the Meech Lake and Charlottetown Accords. Lucien Bouchard, the founding leader of the Bloc Quebecois, was formerly a cabinet minster in Mulroney's government until he quit to start the new party to advance Quebec sovereignty. Chretien happened to be in power during the 1995 referendum, but it wasn't caused by anything his government did.

Well yeah.. absolutely. If the babies on the right had gotten their way we would be more unified. Instead they refuse to be adults and act like spoiled brats.

Come on Canada could bend over backwards and Alberta would still say how bad they have it.

Name the ways it is "stifled" by the feds.
Just caving to every anti-regulatory whim is stupid and irresponsible, BTW.

What is the game plan for the separatist traitors vis a vis the natives and their treaties? Even if Alberta meets the standards of the clarity act, and even if the provinces agree to let Alberta go (not happening), the native bands will have the right to say, no thanks, we don't agree to have our treaties transferred over to an independent Alberta.

At the expense of? You know most decisions have trade-offs, right? Or does nothing but money matter to your view of what Alberta should be?

That’s the answer I get from a lot of conservatives. Too many barriers to capitalism. If there weren’t any, the province would look like Mordor.
