"I'm fitted I'm fitted!" Congratulations, man! You can also be fitted into a 3 wood, or a driving iron, or a mini driver, or a second driver with a different purpose.

I wasn't trying to offend you and your swing speed... no, I didn't make the generalization that "most golfers would be better going to 12". That would be, as you say, quite stupid, because everyone is different. What I said was that a 12 degree driver makes more sense to me than a 12 degree mini driver for the specific purpose of having second club to hit off the tee, for what I would guess is a significant majority of golfers. Of course, the significant majority of golfers are also probably not best served by using a slot in their bag for a second club to hit exclusively off the tee, but again, everyone is different.

Your swing speed and angle of attack do not dictate that you must exclusively play a particular driver with a particular loft. Those factors dictate that if you play the driver you're currently fitted into, you will get X range of results, which may have Y range of drawbacks - i.e., more distance, more dispersion. You could have just as easily been fitted into a driver with less distance and less dispersion if that was your goal or the goal of the person fitting you.

Also, a driver doesn't necessarily have a longer shaft than a mini driver. That is why I said you need to get the right shaft for your swing and for the purpose you are using the club for.

Imagine waking up every day looking for the next stupid argument on a message board.
I asked if anyone has tried a mini driver in a thread called Golf; pretty simple stuff.

Go get some fresh air; perhaps on the golf course.
It's a great game, you should try it.

Yes, and separate and apart from that was a conversation going on about what the purpose of those clubs are and why a person might find them useful in place of, for example, a 3 wood. Skepticism was expressed, including in meme form. Then you quoted me, and said a bunch of things that didn't really make any sense - for example, that hitting a higher lofted driver would be a "disaster" given your swing speed and attack angle, but playing a mini-driver with the same loft is somehow a viable possibility. That is how we wound up here.

Play what you like, obviously, I'm sticking with my original view that the growing popularity of this club is mostly just marketing... Even if one were one of the minority of players for whom it makes sense to have two slots in the bag occupied by clubs used exclusively for tee shots, that person is very likely going to get fewer misses from the larger 460cc head and attendant increase in club face size than whatever benefit the smaller head of the mini drier provides, and they can just as easily get a shaft setup to work for that purpose. Lots of people already use shorter shafts in their driver for this exact reason.

Got a round in this afternoon at my course in Nanton. Great weather and the course was in great condition.

As an added bonus one of my golfing buddies (Scotty Allen) got a Hole in One on Hole #3. First day of the course opening and bam!

There's a number of them in the market now and I'm considering swapping my 3wood for one.
Our course is narrow and tree lined, so it's easy to end up in the trees or even OB from the tees on certain holes.

I don't use my 3wood off the fairway much, so thinking a better weapon for tricky tee shots could be a good move.
Yes - I have been using one for a couple of years. Highly recommend! I used to carry around a 3 wood and never hit it. Put the mini driver in and I use it at least a few times around. For me it is mostly about shot shape, I can turn over the mini driver easier so on right to left holes it is my go-to club.

I've got a 13 degree version which could be adjusted down to 11 but keeping it at 13 allows me to still hit it off the deck if I need to on a long par 5.

Honestly, for me, it was the final piece of the puzzle to get the set up of my bag where I wanted it to be.

Does your course do an annual hole in 1 dinner or anything like that?
At ours, the whole group gets to go so you'd have that to look forward to.

Nope, We also don't have hole in one insurance, which I've been pushing for.

The rest of his year will be a disappointment after starting out like this!

i decided to get the Callaway mini 13.5 degrees. hit it for the first time a couple weeks ago. I really like how it sets up and my strikes were pretty good. not sure if it will be an off the deck club or not, just teed off with it at this point. basically a strong 3 wood

Corsi not a fan of mini driver...noted. Interested in them now, though. I suck with my 3 wood, so maybe this would be a good alternative.

Upgrading from a Taylormade R11 (I bought used) to a Ping G440 SFT, don't have it yet but am pretty excited to get it out on the course. My miss-hit is often more of a slice so the SFT seems built for me.

Thats one way to see a noticeable difference in club technology, play the same driver for 12 years! From all the drivers I tried I liked the Ping G440 series and the Cobra DS Adapt series the best. Went with the Ping as it felt just little better for me, and I do really like the look of the thing.

Gotta love golf.

Played my first round of the year early last week, I'm an 11 handicap and shot a 98 lol . I find going to a sim or two in the winter is fine, but nothing beats hitting off actual grass. Thats my excuse anyways.

Then a few days later, same course, same tees, I shot a 79.

I'm sure my next round will be back up in the 90's

It's not that I'm not a fan, it just seems like a very niche use case club that doesn't really make any sense for most people's bags, yet is hyped to the moon as if everyone should have one. Which seems to be a thing that happens every few years I guess, with some club or other.

Has anyone played highland pacific near Victoria? It’s the only public course in the Victoria area I haven’t played. Worth playing?

Booking a couple rounds out there in 2 weeks

Northview is nice; Ridge is better than Valley.
It used to host the Air Canada Open PGA tour event. Getting $$ for a public course but it's really nice.

Awesome; I’m on the grounds crew; if you ever want to get some time in at the practice facilities I don’t mind helping out some of my CP friends! I’m allowed to bring a guest along to access the driving range and putting greens without a green fee

Got out for the second round of the year Friday. Game is a mess but it'll come together. Need a short game/bunker lesson. Haha.

Make sure you’re choking up a bit more on the club with your bunker setup, stance should be a bit more open as well. A good drill to do is to draw a line in the sand that’s from where the ball lies and then draw another line about 3 inches back of the ball and practice trying take impact before the ball. Long smooth swings are a good way to start, ensuring you’re getting enough sand at impact to help lift the ball up and out.
