Oh and don't forget, Carney air dropped into a riding he's never lived in, kicking out a Lib who did have a seat in a 'safe riding'

PP couldn't go to Carleton early enough since he was going all over the country to campaign on a very short campaign. Carleton was never guaranteed, in the past, about 52% CPC / 44% LPC. CPC hq didn't do enough there for sure.

Not sure about how things will work, I do hope the best for Carney.

LPC probably feel best if PP stays as the Leader of the CPC, especially if they go to an election in 2 years to get a majority (see 2021 try).
I know you’re trying to make excuses for Poilievre, but the leaders don’t have time to campaign in their own ridings. That’s just part of the deal. The CPC had sent in workers because they knew they were in trouble there and Poilievre did campaign there. The reality is, the voters of the riding rejected him and elected a rookie Liberal instead. There’s nothing nefarious, it’s not because the voters in the riding weren’t aware of who Poilievre was or anything like that.

Also, obviously housing costs are important but they're not the only thing. People who bought there years and years ago are OK with their house value increasing, for the most part; they're not okay with ground beef costing 30% more than it did a couple of years ago, a gallon of milk being 7 bucks instead of 4.50 etc.

Not making excuses per say, more so defending the fact that it wasn't a 25 point loss that cost the CPC the chance to form gov't. If NDP / Bloc stayed relevant, Trump doesn't Trump then the result is not the same.

I think Carney is more than keen to get Poilievre back in ASAP via the Battle River-Crowfoot bi-election since that in their minds likely enhances their chances at going for a majority in 2-ish years. Why would Poilievre/CPC popularity get any higher than 2024 peak and with the leader labeled a loser due to Carleton?

The one thing I'll give Poilievre, he did galvanize enthusiasm for the CPC I have never really seen before.

Perhaps Poilievre is truly humbled by the Carleton loss and getting back in via Battle River-Crowfoot and mistakes made before/during the campaign. Maybe just maybe it will be a refreshing new persona from him. No off-putting nicknames and slogans, just effective opposition and also voting with LPC when it is a good situation that benefits the energy sector (for example).

Time will tell, plenty of interesting storylines to be played out.

Lol, PP is not the type to be humbled or to change. He has one mode, attack dog.

I don't understand this thing where people think politicians will be anything other than who they are.

Probably right, I will be unsurprised if the same PP emerges, but it that is the case I wouldn't have much expectation on hims staying leader for very much longer anyway.

It will be interesting what comes from the caucus meeting on Tuesday.

Maybe don’t run on a platform of cutting the size of the federal government workforce when your riding has the highest number of people working in civil service per capita of pretty much anywhere in the country.

Also, don’t support an illegal occupation of Ottawa by that idiotic convoy, then attempt to win favour with the people who live there.

Ya, I think people maybe underestimate how big those two factors were in voters minds. Won't have to worry about either issue in his new riding as long as he remembers to wear blue.

Honestly, he’s a good opposition leader because of that. Zero percent chance I would want him as PM, and a lot of policies are terrible. But as an opposition leader who’s just going to criticize everything, he’s good.

I'm not sure PP gets another chance to run for PM as CPC leader again, I am interested to see how he treats the sophomore chance if given the opportunity. I agree, he makes a really good opposition leader. I think he tried to pivot into PM quality but not enough time to work into that persona.

AS noted in an earlier reply, does he learn lessons and change for the better (his favorite word really)? Not likely, but stranger things have happened.

Man, most people I'm ok with, but your constant bullying and bulls*** is incredibly obnoxious.

Back off and maybe contribute something productive to the conversation.

Or maybe I just lower my expectations for maturity over an online forum.

Criticizing everything isn't useful. Criticizing bad policy is. Questioning is good. But criticizing good policy is not helpful. It may make you popular in your party, but doesn't help make the country better.

Maybe, just maybe, if good policy is presented that all parties can get on board.

One can hope politics gets out of the way of common sense.

We should have Trudeau for the the liberals , Jasmeet Singh for the NDP and Maxime Bernier for the PPC battle with Pierre for MP in Battle River-Crowfoot. It will be like a classic blast from the past battle royale

What’s the complaint against WEF? I’ve looked their goals and they seem reasonable.
