The league seems to like the knights, so hopefully that cancels out the McDiver advantage.
Oiler fans already crying about how the refs will favour the knights because they are Bettmans's darling. The lack of self awareness up there is baffling.
I think the Wild, when healthy might be a better team than people give them credit.

Their top line is nasty. One of the best in the league

Vegas is more equipped to stop the top 2 and have an elite #1 center.

Top d and #1 center plus depth. Kings just didn't have this to expose the Oilers d.

Knights struggled with the Wild, but IMO they are getting very underrated by some. Kap was the fav for MVP and the Wild were in 1st when he went down. He missed 40 games. Tons of injuries on top of missing one of the best players in the league for half a year.

At least now the Oilers have to face a legitimate playoff opponent.

Vegas struggled with Minnesota. This series likely goes 7. Vegas in 7. Just shell the damn goalies, Pickard and Skinner are NOT that good.

Beating a team in 6 games isn't exactly what I consider "struggled" and a healthy Wild team may have finished 1st or 2nd overall in the conference as they were right there with the Jets until losing Kaprizov for half the season.

This entirely. People forget that before the injuries hit, the Wild were a top team in the league. Looking up stats, I found a chart as of Jan. 15, 2025 that had the Wild as the 4th best team in the league, with 12 wins above league average (league average being a 0.550 P%).

https://www.reddit.com/r/hockey/s/ZmjB0KN00f

They also played in the Central, the most brutal division this year with Winnipeg, Dallas, Colorado and St. Louis. Even Utah was fighting till the end.

In the same chart, outside of the Central teams, the top team in the NHL was Vegas.

Knights in 5.

How can an Oiler fan have any pride? Your team has been gifted pretty much everything. They've worked for nothing, Its all been handed to them. How can you cheer that? And we're only scratching the surface of why you should be ashamed to cheer for that team.

Vegas in 4. May as well lose to another team that seems to have plenty of luck. But at least they work.

It's a real shame that after decades of best against worst first rounds that the NHL resorted to this new method.

The old way, the first round would have been Dallas vs Edmonton and LA vs Colorado with the winners next opponent dependent on regular season seeding.

Upsets are great but they don't have to make it easier for the bottom teams to make it, what's the point of the regular season?

I'd be fine with the new format if the kings just beat the grease pig wonder twins for the 4th time. Unfortunately not the case so I agree the format sucks.
