Same song and dance here. TD Melloch. Been with them a long time. Prices just continue to rise.

Another +1 that would take a DM of any references for insurance brokers.

TIA

I’m with the Personal (Desjardins) and my insurance stayed flat for both home and auto. It’s through the APEGA deal but when I switched from Meloche it saved 30%.

Only thing with them was on a hail claim they would only replace damaged sides and not the whole house of siding. Now my siding was still manufactured and beige so didn’t have fading issues so I agreed with their assessment that the whole thing was unnecessary but might be worth specifically asking about.

I’m getting crushed by insurance these days. Unfortunately, we have three different policies (two auto and one home) with three different renewal dates (August, October, and December). Any tips for best way to handle switching these with minimal fees?

I didn't think there were any fees for leaving a plan, and you get refunded what isn't used that you've payed for. Is that not the case?

Formerly in insurance. Make sure you ask about or your broker goes through all the coverages. As mentioned some only cover partial repairs or prorate them. Things like roofs are classic. Lots of small discounts that can add up quickly but if your broker never asked you may not get them. Remember where you live makes a difference too. Rates are based a lot on data. If your postal code is in an area that gets bad hail over and over that area will have higher rates. If you live in a high crime area the data will show it and you will pay more. Newer things like furnaces and hot water tanks, siding types will get discounts too. Unfortunately many brokers never ask and nobody hears about this stuff. Thats also why its impossible to compare 2 peoples policies.

Cooperators hiked our rates a lot. Belair Direct saved us hundreds annually. I love their app.

We have cars with cooperators. I let them quote the house every year and they're never in the ballpark. So I keep one vehicle and house with pembridge through Costco.

I was Meloche for basically ever as APega but the costs got c-wordy so finally made the switch to the personal. Basement flooded a while back, personal
Got back to me to get service master put to do the work. Not much damage but the carpet is garbage and not repairable according to servicemaster. Thepersonal has now totally ghosted us for the past two weeks. Their rep was over and everything now ghosted.

That's my worry. I've been shopping around as my TD Insurance have skyrocketed. At least with TD I've never had an issue when I have needed them and I have read the horror stories with places like belairdirect that ghost you when you need them.

This is the opposite experience I had on my claims. One for theft and for hail. Both were handled professionally and were always available. Are you using the APEGA phone number or just the general dejarden one?

The reason I finally switched is I was calling about a rate hike with TD and was on hold so I also pined the personal to get a quote and it was so much cheaper so I signed up. I completed the whole process and still had to wait another 30 minutes on hold with TD before I could cancel. I never had a claim with TD though.

He was good and came out to investigate the flooded basement but for the past few weeks it’s crickets and we still have everything down there with the company y waiting on further instructions from insurance. Not huge dollars but sick of servicemaster carpeting. They say the carpet is pooched so we will see if he phones back tomorrow.

I've used TD for the third year in a row. My insurance has doubled for the same house in those 3 years, no changes.

I think I was getting a double discount year 1, so I try not to think of it as that large of an increase, but as many has said it went up again by a sizable amount. Problem is it is still cheaper than any alternative I have found.

They offer a fair number of discounts for different organizations.

Wow, I decided to re-market my home and auto policies this year, and it shows how ridiculous TD is. Primary and Secondary Residence, and two cars are what make up my file, no claims. Same if not better limits and deductibles.

- Marsh PCS came in at 28% less than TD (with Intact)
- The Personal came in at a staggering 58% less. (This has a professional discount included)

I can't dump TD fast enough.
