I will be interested to see the final turn out numbers for this vote. Is the record advance vote an indicator of better overall voter turnout? I hope so. My 15 year old Don was saying to me the other day that he's surprised that 2 of 5 people who could vote, don't vote.
I'll cast my ballot tomorrow. In the past voting after 5 on the day of the election was an in and out for me. I did advance vote in 2021...but it was just happenstance as I was going to like Home Depot to get something, saw a sign for advanced voting..and my votercard was in the vehicle because I'd checked my mail just before. So with the Covid protocols I expected a longer process and being a Saturday I had time.
If I have to wait tomorrow because more people care to vote, I don't see it as a bad thing. I also do not expect election is stolen BS either, and I hope that holds too.

I’m not posting it here, but the CPC posting what is essentially a series of snuff clips on Twitter implying that the Liberals will catch and release criminals after the events in Vancouver yesterday is completely disgusting. Politicizing that event is just plain gross.

That's demented. I had hoped they'd leave this one alone for electioneering, as it seems like it has a big mental health component to it. But I guess some ghouls just can't resist.

So I went to the candidates websites...
Scott Arnott (lib) - worked for Suncor, Atco and Deloitte as a CPA and CFA. Qualified and experienced to help energy industry break through inter- provincial trade. Damn, exactly what I want. Seen 1 lawn sign and i think it was his house.
Shuv Majumdar (cpc) - website doesn't have a bio. Wikipedia says he met polli-b at a U of C conservative club. Most known for being a part of the kamikaze candidate scandal. Worked for some right wing think tanks. No notable experience of any kind.
Pretty tough call here guys. I love how the party of common sense tells you exactly who they are in the most up front ways.
Also, a true f u to the city running such a weak candidate in a stronghold. Just another indication that alberta has made itself politically irrelevant through subservience to a single party.

Alberta conservative politics is a true "swamp". When you know you can almost guarantee a win, you don't need to be a good candidate, you need to be a good lil Party shill. Jobs/business will flow after all that.
Meanwhile the smart, savvy, and astute people are running away from the UCP/CPC and their trash rhetoric

I've essentially seen zilch from Rempell, which is pretty standard for her at election time. I don't know why Conservative voters accept that, but they do, every time.

I just looked up Scott Arnott. Guy spent 10 years managing accounts payable at Suncor. I hardly call that knowing the industry and helping bring down provincial trade barriers.

So he’s buddy-buddy with a bunch of their vendors and has those vital connections needed to sell his vote.

He’s a CPA/CFA Charter holder. What’s Majumder got for credentials or experience that you would put above Arnott?

I haven't the clips as I am not on Twitter and fully agree that this event should not be getting political. Personally I think people and tech companies need to be held to account for such filth online as this culture of not trying to render aid but instead looking for views is beyond sick.
The reality of the specific situation will also be really eye opening going forward no matter who wins. This is just another much larger and more deranged example of the problem we have in this country and how we deal with people with these problems on a go forward basis. When the details of this person are probably released I am sure nobody is going to take any accountability. Medical people who are powerless and may just tick a box to be done with it? Police? Judges? Prosecutors ? Politicians? Charity and support groups? Nobody will but someone is responsible for allow this and a many others to happen.
Literally nobody is going to argue that this person does not belong in prison or in a mental health facility going forward for a very very long time, after this fact. Before this occurred people would probably be defending this person's right to not be forced into anything but now that this event occurred and with a mountain of destruction that he probably did leading up to this, people always ask "Why was this person allowed to walk the streets?"
The difference is a lot of previous events could have been prevented and this particular event may have as well

Would be nice if that wasn’t such a touchy subject for the “free speech no matter what” proponents.

Lots people in industry who are cpa as they got cma and CGA and then grandfathered in. Just because you have a designation doesn't mean jack. I'm a CA/CPA and there's lots of designation db azzes in industry.

Sure, there are some people in every industry who are brutal. The CFA is a designation that’s earned though, and you don’t get that without the grind. That’s going to come across as super conceited, and I don’t love that, but that’s also just how it is. I’m sure someone else can back me up on that.
And looking at Majumder, he’s basically Poilievre redux. I guess for some people that’s enough, I mean he will win this riding in a walk.

My wife has the designation and I have nothing but respect for the work she put in to earn it.

I'm happy that this election cycle is behind us for the next couple years.
