This is an incredibly troubling development (amongst a sea of these these days). ICE having carte blanche to enter people's homes is ####ing disgusting and is a swan dive into full-out authoritarianism.
Makes one wonder at what point people start physically resisting, and organizing actual resistances. This is going to get incredibly ugly.

French president Emmanuel Macron completely dissed Trump at the Pope's funeral. Emmanuel shook Zelenskyy's hand and then Trump put out his hand to shake Macron's and Macron very obviously avoided it. It looked completely purposeful. Zelenskyy also got an ovation when he entered the basilica.

This is why they have the 2nd amendment. Specifically to defend themselves from the tyranny of government.
Don’t like your neighbor? Want petty revenge on someone? Just call and say they’re harboring immigrants. Great.
It's the way dictatorships often work, fascist and communist... neighbours spying on neighbours and civilians policing on behalf of the state. The illegal immigrant aspect is a little more unique, but same concept. You don't like your neighbour, report them for making anti-government statements and watch them get taken away. It could just be a matter of time until it gets to that point.
That stuff causes long term societal scars as well. Even after the dictatorship falls, people remember which families or ethnic/demographic groups were the rats.

It's going to be even worse this time around because we'll have permanent receipts. There also won't be those "it was a different time and people didn't know better" excuses because of those receipts.

To be fair, 10 years ago we were this close to having the exact same thing, just replace "harboring immigrants" with "barbaric practices".

Not quite the same thing. Reporting a public health concern doesn't end in deportation, imprisonment in El Salvador, or people needing to flee the country. Wasn't it like a warning or fine? Maybe a little more serious than reporting a bylaw violation, but nothing that is going ruin lives.
