If the Flames tell Parekh that they would love nothing more than to be able tell Hockey Canada that they will not release him because he is too important to their NHL team. Accomplish that and we let you deliver that news yourself. I suspect that motivates him to manifest that fate.

If he is good enough to play 3/4 he is good enough to play 4/4 and no WJ for him.

It would be wholly unprecedented for the Calgary Flames to treat a young player this way.
They didn’t do it with Monahan, Gaudreau, or Tkachuk.
They wouldn’t have done it with Bennett, even if they could’ve.
They didn’t do it with Phaneuf.
If you’re here, they expect you to play and play well.
But this 3/4 + releasing a guy to go play in a Christmas tournament for teenagers is some Mickey Mouse Anaheim behavior, and I don’t support it.

I am going to go out on a limb here that you meant to quote TBull? Otherwise, one of us has a severe comprehension issue.

Gaudreau was 21 during his first full season and Phaneuf was 20. So they were both too old for the World Juniors. The Flames never blocked either from playing in a tournament when they were eligible.
Waaay back I think they did release Rico Fata to play when he wasn't really being used much in the NHL.
If Parehk isn't playing much and is in the NHL, I do not think the Flames would stop him from playing. But if like Tkachuck or Monahan he's a regular in the lineup...he will stay with the NHL club.

That’s more what I was saying. A player known for his offense may also start slow and then lose some confidence. 2 week high stakes tournament might help him reset. But I agree, if he looks comfortable/effective and he’s a regular in the roster, no use sending him

The only reason he was in Providence was because the NHL had the season long lockout. Played the full NHL season the year before.

re: Parekh
I could easily see a scenario where he is not quite at the level to be a full time NHLer, but is obviously too good to return to the OHL. I see next year having the following possibilities for him:
Plan A: he is competent at the NHL level and can play regularly
Plan B1: he struggles at the NHL level, plays sparingly and practices with the team, goes to the WJHC, and returns to the NHL for the second half of the season.
Plan B2: he struggles at the NHL level, plays sparingly and practices with the team, goes to the WJHC, and is loaned to a european club for the second half of the season.
Plan C: he struggles at the NHL level, plays sparingly and practices with the team, goes to the WJHC, and returns to junior for the second half of the season.
