A key aspect of penalty killing is the bravery to protect your net…by any means possible. Does knobby really believe that Mcdavid is going to lie down on the ice to block a shot? Of course not. Mcdavid is there to take off up the ice as soon as the oilers get the puck.
In the meantime though, it’s one less effective PK forward since Mavi is not expected to be that guy.
Can you imagine how fast knobby would be run out of town if mcdavid broke something blocking shots on the pk?

Well that was a glorious result! I didn't read too much into LA's home record being a difference maker, just as that seems like a stat that can go out the window come playoffs. But I'll happily eat my words if it means 6+ goals per night against the Coilers.
I think if Kuemper can be consistent the Kings could actually go on a nice little run this year, would also be a huge mojo boost if they finally 'slay the dragon' with Edmonton in the first round.
Agreed with most of what has been said about the game.
The media though. It's disgusting how they are just Oiler fans calling a broadcast with no impartiality at all. By contrast, you can tell Ryan Leslie, for example, is great buddies with most/all the Flames players, but you don't see him whining on national TV how bad the Flames are being treated, and that they need to talk to the manager lol. Ryan is all pro all the time. Hell, even Pike who is clearly a fan keeps things professional when he's working.
Principe, Stauffer, DeBrusk, all of em, trash.

This is a very promising start but I don't think we should get ahead of ourselves here as the Kings need to win 1/2 in Edmonton to take a stranglehold on the series.
Yes. Remember what happened in the Finals.
Just keep coming at them and put evertyhing on Skinner. They are going point blank chances and LA has some deadly shooters. Those guys like Kempe, Fiala, Byfield and Kopitar with time and space will rifle it home all day.

I think most local crews are very homerish. The Flames' ones are an exception.

Someone said he was taking the pass away lol. He literally stood there.
Underrated blunder in that goal is Draisaitl trying to shove a guy a second time, instead of going for the puck, and letting Byfield pick it up un contested.

For me this is on Nurse for casually drifting almost to the blue line (to put himself 5th guy high in his own zone?) with absolutely zero puck support and outnumbered (which he would know if his back wasn’t to absolutely everything)…. But What a ####ing pair these two are.
I agree, this is on Nurse. Bouchbomb was stuck in no man's land. Stay or go? Dead either way...play was done as soon as Blyfield won the board battle.
But Bouch is still an incredibly terrible NHL defensman.

Oilers players seem so dumb. It is almost as if the Oilers purposefully have targeted 'stupidity' as part of their identity when bringing in new players into the organization. They are trying to be 'bullies', but they don't scare anyone - they just take extraordinarily poor penalties.
When Calgary signed Kadri, I was expecting this out of him given his history - a propensity for taking selfish penalties at times. I am not sure I have seen any at all since that signing - maybe one? Oilers are doing it in the damn playoffs as a team identity. It is so damn funny! They are playing as if they lost their minds.
The fact that the Oilers are a decade into the McDavid/Draisaitl era and they still haven't fixed their two biggest weaknesses in that time frame (defense and goaltending) is a masterclass of failure. E=NG

Yeah, I think Bouchard could have stepped up late once it looked like Byfield was committing and that wouldn't be the wrong play, but there's still a risk that the moment your momentum goes toward him he throws the puck through your legs and it's an open net. There's no risk-free thing for him to do in that situation. You're probably better off there because there you're taking away two things, hopefully: the pass and the POP.
Skinner just has to be able to close off the short side and challenge more. If he holds the puck, stay with him across the top of the crease and close the gap. From the angle Byfield is at he'll have a hard time cutting across the crease and then you not only have the poke check, but Bouchard probably would step up. He's deep in his crease making himself small and Byfield doesn't need a perfect shot, just a good one. Too much space.

Went and got a lemonade from the food truck and just posted up on the bench and watched the collective groans and wailing. More goals scored, the crowd thinned even more. What a bunch of bandwagon fans. Thankfully my hotel is right beside and I was able to avoid the crap areas.

Can confirm. Staying right next to the fan tent. Was very loud when they scored, and then got eerily quiet as the hope left their bodies.

I have a feeling the next game is going to be super close and likely go into OT. Winner of that OT wins the series.
Nah, Kings are going to win 9-1. late goal to break the shutout but they are up 5-0 in the 1st chasing Pickard then Skinner lets in one from outside the blueline crushing their dreams.
