Not going to lie, it does hurt.

On the one hand this team making this far was an intermediate-level miracle in and of itself.

On the other? Getting bounced by a team on an unthinkably miraculous run?

Thats Lucy with the Football.

The Hockey Gods can, indeed, go #### themselves.

Also if it was only the Habs with an underserved playoff spot it might be easier to take. The Devils with their 91 points enjoying playoff hockey at the same time is the cherry on top.
Habs fans are awesome. I don't see a reason to beef with them. They're the best in the world.

I will feel better when some teams get swept/eliminated...especially the ones I think the Flames are better than

I dunno, the bottom 3 teams in the West are far easier to get points against than the bottom 3 teams in the East. Nashville...pretty rough year. Chicago and San Jose? Abysmal teams that are probably worse than few AHL teams. Compare that against Philly, Boston, and Buffalo, who aren't great, but are at least competitive.

It makes sense as to why the overall point totals in the West are a little higher with the 3 worst teams in the league in the West.

The overall records of each conference are almost exactly equal. The West has worse teams at the bottom, but better teams at the top.

Yes, but you have to consider the strength of the entire conference. The best way to do that is to compare the inter-conference records, which are pretty much identical, which shows that the conferences are balanced.

The west has 3 weak teams, but also more good teams.

It's not just that the Flames are ahead of two eastern playoff teams, it's that they're clear of them by 5 points and one of them isn't even a wild card team, they actually hold a divisional playoff spot.

Fricken brutal

T-14 in pts, and they are closer to 10th than they are to 15th and 16th (excluding themselves)

The 2022 will never be replicated imo. In some ways I like it more than the 04 team less the goaltending. Too bad it got crushed by a 1-man team.

The Flames swept the Habs head to head.

Obviously the West bottom 3 were really bad (52/61/68 pts) compared to the east (76/76/79)

Calgary went 9-1 vs the West bottom 3 (Wolf 8-1, Vladar 1-0)
Against the east bottom 3, they were 3-0-3 (Wolf 3-0-2, Vladar 0-0-1)

They were pretty dominant against bottom feeders on both sides

Wolf went 28-16-8 which is awesome. 12 games over .500
+10 of that +12 came against the 6 worst teams in the league

No slight, you’re supposed to win those and he did

Makes sense that the 96 pt cutoff was so high. Sucks that StL went on a 12 game heater
.

The only way to guarantee every playoff team has a better record than every non-playoff team is a 1 vs 16 playoff model. And there’s zero chance that will ever happen because the owners (cost) and players (travel and fatigue) would both hate it. So all this whining about records and conferences is pointless.

Every team can whine about something. Dallas lost 7 in a row to end the season. If they won all 7 they are the presidents trophy winner.

Agreed
But there should definitely be a play in game, in conference, in the event of a tie. Use tiebreaker for seeding, but not for who is in and who is out. Blues and Flames should have played. MLB does it, NHL should too.

I don’t think you get what the discussion actually about.
It’s not random whining, it’s that Calgary was ahead of two playoff teams.

MLB used to do it, but changed it with the new playoff format wild card round. If think if NHL is going to have play-in games like NBA, it would have to be every season between teams 7-10 because broadcasters would want to have rights to those games.

Well that’s the rules. When I tell you the divisional format sucks you tell me that’s the rules.

It’s like that in every sport. The NBA eastern conference usually sends 2-3 under .500 teams to the playoffs when in the west they would be at the bottom.

NFL has the NFC especially the south division lately.
