What's the big deal with these? I really don't know anything about the context that these cartoons are set in. Is it just the stereotypes used in the cartoon images, or is it something about what's been going on with Dumont?
Anyone with more background info?

There seems to be along history of anti-jewish feelings in Quebec. Here's what's happening there lately. A number of summer homes have been set on fire.

And the silence in Canada’s mainstream media has been deafening... and revealing.
Revealing of what exactly? Anti-Semitism? That seems to be the suggestion.
I wonder -- is this story not being reported because nobody cares about it and the media knows this and prefers to cover things that draw attention, or is it not being reported because the media doesn't like Jews? I know which option seems more plausible to me.
The Western Standard isn't even covering this. Are they:
a) pro-Quebec
b) anti-Semitic
c) leftie loons
d) unconcerned with cartoons in obscure papers

I'd say it reveals the double standard that exists in Canada. If these had been in say....an Albertan paper. I am sure there would be no end in CBC's coverage of how bad the backwater-redneck Albertans are.

There was a huge stink when a Quebec town published a code of conduct for immigrants ( link)
Even Quebecers say they are racist.
And there are back-water places all over the country; Harriston Ont just had a Redneck Games
So I'm not sure why you are trying to stir up controversy?

I tried real hard to follow your thinking here. You'll have to explain.
1) A Quebec town publishes something offensive and other Quebecers say it is racist so.......it is ok for major Quebec newspapers to publish anti-semitic / bigoted cartoons that we would usually see in an Egyptian paper or old Nazi propaganda?
2) Harrison Ont has Redneck games and that makes it ok to have one standard for Quebec and one for Alberta?
Did you even try to follow the gist of this thread?

Who said it was OK?
You made a stink about how, if this happened in Alberta, it would be big news but since it happened in Quebec you implied they get a free pass. That's a load of BS.
In January Quebec xenophobia was big news. After that incident, a poll came out where Quebecers admitted they were racist, and that was big news. These cartoons are just another drop in the bucket. No, it isn't ok. But it isn't a revelation, either.
Do you even read what you post, or do you let your perceived righteous indignation carry you away?

I think the concern here is that it is the silent majority that is dangerous in respects to racism. Yes, they may not be responsible for the crimes of the racist minority, but their silent non-objection acts as a silent approval.

So you're not mad because Quebec is supposed racist, you're mad at the double standard that Quebec can get away with it and you can't?

I dont think anyone was implying they were in favor of these cartoons. I think he makes a valid point. Quebec gets a free pass on a lot of things in this country

Only valid if you dismiss the fact that these hit the national press 2-3 weeks ago. National Post, The Star, Sun Media all had stories and editorials criticising the cartoons. The cartoon was published June 14.
If you want to discuss whether Quebec gets a free pass on stuff, fine. But story is a very poor example.
As it is, this looks very similar to the Danish Mohommad cartoon bru-ha-ha.
Questionable political cartoon - check
Time elapsed since published - check
Rightous indignation - check
I guess we need a few riots now.....
