The Payola$ used to be one of my favorite bands back when I was in highschool. They had some great songs

Eye's of a stranger, Dirty water, Where is this love. All great songs.

I was also surprised yesterday when I heard some of the new Lee Aaron stuff on a friends dvd. The former metal queen has gone jazz and she's amazing at it. I'm trying to find her new album now, but its not in main stream rotation.

edit, she's aged well too

I would have been disappointed if they didn't play their hits, but perhaps they altered their set to adapt to the Stampede theme?

A lot of folks seemed bored when they realized the song selection was light on hits to say the least.

Bon Jovi absolutely sucked last night. I've seen them 3 times (Last night, Halifax in the 90's, and Toronto a few years ago), and this was by far the worst performance. Who the hell does he think he is coming out to play encores and playing that garbage NOONE in the audience paid to see? No Bed of Roses, no Always, no Blaze of Glory. Gimme a break. No one cares about their country garbage. I tried to leave during the encore I was so bored (with his jesus preaching, and Hallelujah), but my wife wouldn't let me. I should have known this though. I predicted before the concert that he'd use the Stampede to go country thinking everyone would be OK with it given it was the Stampede.

Trust me, the crowd was disappointed. Every time they started one of these country songs there was an instant reduction in the crowds energy level and attentiveness. The band must have picked up on this. They just didn't care.

Are you sure you two saw the same show?

Most people will go to a concert and say it was awesome regardless of the show that was put on because they've likely never seen the band before. Bon Jovi always will put on a decent performance, but last night wasn't even close to their usual standard. Little energy, crap song selection, and his garbage random sermons all night = a crap show for me.

I really like their new album, so I'm gathering that's where the difference lies. To each their own.

I don't mind the new album, it's just not what I (and likely most people) paid to see. I fully understand that he's going to play songs off it (he's trying to sell it), but he played the whole damn thing with some garbage covers songs thrown in. In the process he left out 5-6 of his major hits outs which disapointed 95% of the crowd. I was OK with it up until the end when he strung out the encore by playing even more country instead of what most people expected to hear. I was very disappointed. To not play Bed of Roses and Always is an absolute sin. Especially when he played covers of "Shout" and "Hallelujah". and spent half the night preaching.

I've been to a lot of concerts in my day and this is THE first time I have ever seen a band not play most of their hits. Bands always throw their new album in, but they don't neglect what come that where they are in the first place.

Scratch that, I have seen in once before. Matthew Good did it once in Halifax and told the audience that if they wanted to hear his old stuff, to go buy the album. That attitude has almost washed him off the face of the earth.

I almost threw up in my mouth when I read the review in the Sun today (I know, I know, reading the Sun and disappointment go together like mouth-breathing and Bertuzzi); do people not understand the role of "music critic" anymore? It read like it the editor had to delete all the "OMG HAWT!", "AMAZINGG!!!!!!!" and "TOO AWESOMES!" out of the text in order to bring it up to the Grade 3 reading level of the standard Sun article.

I like *my* music critics to, y'know, criticize. If you're going to just hire someone that'll fellate the band so they'll come back on their next tour, at least make sure the byline reads something more accurate like "Joy Dispenser" or "Terminally Perky - for MONEY!!!" instead.
