Icon36 Rangers, Drury agree to multi-year extension

https://thescore.com/nhl/news/3273578

Quote:
The New York Rangers agreed to a multi-year contract extension with president and general manager Chris Drury, the team announced Wednesday.
Quote:
"I am pleased that Chris will continue to lead the Rangers' hockey operations in his role as president and general manager," MSG Sports CEO James L. Dolan wrote in a statement. "Over his tenure, Chris has shown passion for the Rangers, relentless work ethic, and a tireless pursuit of excellence.

"While we are all disappointed in what transpired this past season, I am confident in his ability to guide this organization to success."

It's amazing the good fortune that falls into the Rangers laps all the time and these goofs still can't win anything.

Yeah. Pre-salary cap, they had the advantage of being able to out-bid everyone else for free agents. And during the salary cap era, they are the team that is at the top of every UFA’s list as well as college free agents. And they won draft lotteries even when the odds were stacked against them. They only ended up with Lafreniere and Kakko out of those drafts but still.

The title showed up as "Rangers, Drury agree to" and when I opened it up I expected it to say "part ways"...

Yeah that's totally where I thought this was going. Quite surprising, actually, but this appears to be the norm for executives entering their final year, because the argument is that somehow, they won't do a good job if they don't have job security, which is nonsense.

Really, means nothing toward his future with the franchise.

Who had Lamoriello being fired and Drury being extended on their bingo card? Anybody? Bueller?

I had to check the thread date. We should all be so lucky to be rewarded for failure.

He's probably really good at kissing his ass. Similar to another American currently wielding a lot of power...loyalty is valued higher than competency when it comes to the subordinates.

So the Rangers organization is a reported cultural mess, and you extend the guy who sets the organizational culture? Seems like a good decision.

And Norris Trophy winners like Adam Fox and top line players like Panarin still fall into their lap

Apparently they're already attempting to move out JT Miller because "he isn't a good fit"

You know, JT Miller seems like a perfect fit for the Oilers. Has some talent but it appears no one can stand him.

Didn't Drury retire as a player rather than stay on LTIR, thus alleviating the Rangers of a significant cap hit?

The Rangers were probably a little surprised and upset when JT Miller was elated that they missed the playoffs, so he could pursue his true passion as an aspiring PGA golf pro.

No idea how the coach gets fired and he gets an extension.

Long story short, his bad attitude came right back out as soon as he felt other players weren't pulling their weight... and then the on-ice sulking and pouting began near the end of the year.
