He will be in the NHL next year but I also think a break from the league will be in the cards for him developmentally as well and will be released to go to the WJC.
I don't think anybody has any illusions of the Flames sending Parekh back to junior. Unless he blows all of the tires in training camp, you can lock him into a roster spot.

For those curious, tournament is taking place in Stockholm Sweden. Wonder if that is why we are seeing more Flames/Swedish players saying yes this year.

I could see him not playing every game for the first couple months. Maybe 3 of every 4. Then let him go to World Juniors, and when he comes back start to ramp up his time and games
Fair comment, but still just an opinion. In the past many rookies have been sent to the WJC, as well as play in the NHL.
NHL teams allowing roster player’s to go to the WJC is happening less every year. There is a chance the flames would do it but I doubt they would, especially if he plays in the men’s world championships this year.

Teams let kids go to the WJC when they’re playing 3rd/4th line minutes and minimal 2nd unit PP time.
By the time the tournament starts, Zayne Parekh is going to be two months into running Calgary’s PP1.
He did but he was playing for Providence not the Bruins when he went to the WJC. I also think the overall mindset of most NHL management is a little different now.

Wasnt that the lockout season?
That was the most stacked WJ team Canada ever.

The Quest stands upon the edge of a knife. Stray but a little, and it will fail, to the ruin of all. Yet hope remains while the Company is true. Go Flames Go!

I expect that’s a big part of it. And for Backlund it’s probably his swan song for representing his country.
