First 3D V-NAND CPU for me, which is neat because it's also the first one that doesn't basically force you to reformat when upgrading from a non-3D chip.
I’m looking to replace my 8 year old Ryzen 7 PC for audio production with that chip. Reaper DAW. But I can’t seem to find any prebuilt systems. Mind you I just started looking. Was also looking at an Intel ultra 9 285k system but I know Intel has had problems.

I was impatient and went with the 9800x3d. Which turned out to be defective. Annoying process to get it sorted out.

So my plan is once I finally upgrade my main PC, I'd like to build a small Steam machine/emulation box with my old GTX 1080 for the living room. Anyone know the smallest form factor case that would fit one of those?

I do a lot of work in Ableton, and while I'm still seriously eyeing an upgrade for my AI to a UA dock (WHEN TB4 UA???) for the onboard processing, it is running historically poor performance VSTs like some of my Mastering Suites incredibly well.

A really masterful chip for production work (great with Premiere too)!

For those who care, MemEx has a few 5080s in stock today.

Has anyone here used https://quoted.tech/ to build them a system? Seems reasonable.

I think you'd ultimately be better off building your own and getting MemEx or CC to assemble it for you. Looks like they're trying to save money by going with DDR4 RAM, which also tells me they're using an older MoBo, which sticks you with PCIE 4.0, etc.

It would really matter what you're using it for and what your budget is. For gaming, none of that is really going to hurt you at the moment and probably not anytime in the near future. I just am generally of the idea that if you're doing a brand new build, it's worthwhile to get newer parts, especially because you're only saving a few hundred $ overall by getting the older parts.

Thanks for the info here, especially on PCIE. I’m totally out of date when it comes to current tech. The default MOBOs on the build I was playing around with were dated at PCIE 4.0. A new sample build I just did with a 9850x3d had 64gb Kingston DDR 5 and the option to put in an ASUS ProArt X870E-Creator, PCIE 5.0 for a total around $3900. That also included 2 ssds at 2tbs each. But I’ll kept looking around and check MemEx.

Edit. Just messing around on MemExpress it looks like I’m saving 3 to 400 on a similar build. Again, thanks.

Just nabbed a 9070XT from Canada Computers and looks like they still have more in stock online.

Should be getting a 9950x3D build in a week or so. Hopefully I don’t run into issues. I’ve read a few reports of the new chips and boards dying, although mostly on AsRock boards.

Good thing the FE is sold out otherwise I'd be tempted.

I bought an Intel B580 for my Plex server and tried a few games with it. Forza Motorsport 4K high settings and it got 70-90fps, while it transcoded a 4K video in the background. I tried Ultra but memory became an issue.

Baldur’s Gate 3 on Ultra was averaging around 60fps. No upscaling or other AI bull####. Way better than I expected on a $400 card.

I also bought a 5070ti when I saw one in MemEx a few weeks ago, but I returned it because what was I thinking?

Yeah, I ended up returning the 9070XT because I just couldn't justify it when I'm still getting perfectly good performance on my A770.

Ive had a new system build for about week. Spent the entire week installing my audio plugins and music files etc. before carefully moving it to my studio zone and retiring the old system. It was working fine in the new spot for 20 mins then crashed with the MOBO showing the 0d message with amber and red lights. The only thing I did differently was plug in a different keyboard and mouse, while using the same usb slots and longer extension cables. I reset it with the CMOS clear button and it worked, posted and rebooted.

The build is a 9950x3d with an MSI Tomahawk 870E board. Memory Express updated the bios before I picked it up. My noob question is, should I update the bios and AMD chipset drivers as soon as they’re available and is it ok to do this through windows based software update apps or should I be doing it by booting up into the bios and flashing?

The golden rule is never update the bios unless it's absolutely 1000% necessary.

Is that still the rule with modern mobos that can backup the bios? I don’t update unless there’s a tangible benefit (like preventing the CPU from frying itself) but I think it’s far safer now.

Either way I use the flashing tool in the bios.
