Running another "they're not great, but they're not Trump" candidate is how you lose again. I think it's now fair to say if COVID never happened even Biden would have lost. Smoothing out the edges of an inspirational candidate is far easier than making a dull candidate exciting. US American politics in the 2020s aren't about competence or quality governance, it's about star power. Play the game on the current rules or lose, and I guess we know what Dems will probably do since it's in their DNA.

Let's face it. Americans voted for Trump because he is racist, sexist and brash. In numbers big enough to make him president. And because the media down there just won't do their jobs.

Harris did far worse than Biden and that was the difference...Trump would have lost again to "Biden numbers"
Turnout wasn't there

If centrists needed Harris to rally with Cheney and crow about the endorsement from her war criminal father to get out and vote, then they're not really centrists. They're neocons.

Biden did better because Trump's failures were fresh in voters' minds. Tell me - who in their right mind voted for Biden and decided to switch to Trump because it was Harris running?

That's wrong
AoC's populist appeal and rhethoric is exactly what Americans would vote for. It's essentially what got Trump so many votes from people who know zilch about politics. The very basic core of AoC's hypothetical platform:
- The status quo is not okay
- We have a plan to implement change
- The change will help everyday Americans with everyday expenses
This... is essentially what sold undecided voters on MAGA.
And it's essentially why Kamala Harris lost the previous election - she represents the status quo, does not have a plan to implement change, and the Biden administration just watched as wealth became further and further concentrated in the hands of the 1%
why won't AoC gain traction?
It's not because the "people" won't get behind her. She's the most magnetic political personality in the States since Obama.
It's because the democrat party won't get behind her.
They are, at their core, a capitalist, right-of-center political party. It's just that USA's concept of center is so skewed that they are labelled a left-leaning party.
Democrat politicians want the status quo of free market capitalism. They're even happy standing idle collecting their paycheque under the Trump regime.
And they are not going to risk losing their multi millionaire, billionaire backers by allowing AoC to rise up. Because the solution to everything that ailes the Americans has always been "Taxing the ultra-wealthy".
I wouldn't confuse AoC with some socialist far lefter. She's... just a regular left-of-center politician who would be closer to Liberal-aligned in our Country.
Her power is her populist appeal.

I wish this were true. I hate saying this, but unless there is a civil war, anything other than a male WASP has no chance in this climate, and it will only get worse in four years. As VP? Maybe, but a shaky maybe.

Jon Stewart should run. I've heard it said once or twice... I wonder if it's something he'd seriously consider?

If Stewart ran, he'd winning landslide. But he's also a capitalist dem if you pay attention to theittle things.
But that's likely what itle take to quell the Maga brand, a bigger t.v personality.
Stewart already has the first responder vote locked down. Forever and ever because of his 9/11 efforts. That reach spans the nation not just in NYC.
Honestly he should. He's got the intellect for it. And the bombastic retorts loaded and cocked to shoot right back at Maga.
There was a point before Biden's presidency, Colbert had Stewart on to do a making fun of trump bit and he kicked the idea out on t.v and Stewart shied away from it. "For the love of God no" was the answer IIRC.

Man I don’t know about first responders. Police unions backed the guy who freed most of the insurrectionists and did photo ops with them. I realize they’re not a monolith, but a lot of first responders are so deep in MAGA that they’ll ally themselves with people who assault their brethren. Heck some of them were insurrectionists. It’s complicated.

It's a silly hypothetical, but I can't see someone with the level of empathy Stewart seems to have being willing to push through on the U.S.' foreign policy goals, which would turn the entire military industrial complex on his head and likely lose him support from establishment Dems.

I don't think going with a candidate that plays to the polarization of "left vs. right" is the way to go. Course correction is going to require a softer approach IMO.
If it's a pole versus pole election, I doubt the left has the horses to beat the right. It's just too ingrained is America these days and when push comes to shove, more people in the middle will move right.

I've seen some chatter about Stephen A. Smith running for President. I only know him from his sports talk show and I like him quite a bit. I honestly don't know anything about him in terms of politics but he sure would make the primaries interesting.

It's only silly until it happens. See: Donald Trump.
Long and short, I don't see Stewart doing it. I'm saying if he did, he'd have a massive swelling of support and would steal a bunch of votes.
