Teams will be spending, and guys might be available too. Sergachev was a good pick up for Utah.
I don't think they will sit around a do nothing this off season. Maybe they take one last crack at McKenna, but I can see them thinking they have the core to win now too.

I still think they are too early in their cycle to get any good UFAs without a cup. They might get out of the bottom ten though

That sucks for Couture. Toughing out a rebuild and having your play time get cut short by a couple of years as the team (hopefully) pulls up from it and starts winning again...
Good for the Sharks management as they can use his cap hit to reach the floor, if they are still rebuilding, or they can LTIR and ignore his cap hit if they start heading for the cap ceiling.
I expect that they will want to go UFA hunting again to get some proven talent to go with their army of prospects. Marner and Ekblad makes sense for the Sharks as they are loaded on C but could probably use a top line winger and definitely need to upgrade on D. I am not sure that it makes sense for the players though.

I believe it's against the rules to do that to an injured player.

Yeah, I think they used their one get out of jail free with Kane. Even with 2 years remaining, it will still be coming off before Celebrini needs his extension.

The Devils had a 49 point improvement (63pts to 112pts) from 2021/22 to 2022/23

True, but they came back to earth the following year with 81 points, and this year they'll finish somewhere from 89 to 93. A jump like that is pretty hard to sustain.

100%, no argument from me, just thought it was interesting in the context of the claims that the Sharks jumping 45 points wouldnt be possible. Development isn't linear and even if they did it, they could easily regress the following year.

Solid player in his prime, and fairly or unfairly, I will mostly remember him as the guy who Datsyuk deked out of his jockstrap and caused to fall on his bottom. At least he was a great sport about it.

Flames getting more points this year? They might be plus 15 and didn't really spend anything on anyone good and other than Wolf didn't get huge bumps from anyone.
Celebrinni and Smith could be PPG players next year.

Just thought I would bump this thread with all the talk of Ras to SJ making sense as the could be top 3 in division rather than just a wild card team.

The Sharks' first will likely be 12-18 or so. If Ras goes but doesn't acclimate to California and they fall off from here, which could happen with a young team, would love to pick around 10 after picking hopefully top three with our own.

It's hard to predict this and a lot depends on Celebrini. But when you have a player that good, you are good.
Colorado is as good as any team ever right now. They have 2 elite players. Necas was labeled a 50-point guy a couple years ago; Nelson was said to be a terrible signing. Toews is very good, and Blackwood has been hurt as per usual. Yet the have lost 2 times in regulation in 33 games.
Oilers have been to back-to-back finals with 2 good players.
The Sharks have the next face of the NHL. They add Ras, they are not going to be a top 10 pick.

3 years after picking McDavid the Oilers picked 10th. The next year they picked 7th.
3 years after picking MacKinnon, the Avs picked 10th, the next year 10th and the next year 4th. 6 years after they picked 4th again.

Did those teams have 50 mil in cap space and stock piling assets for many years?
You still need good players around players this good. No player can do it themselves. But to say there was no chance SJ could make a run at the playoffs with young players this good and $50M cap and many prospects that can also improve the team was just off IMO.
Team also had a desire to start improving now.
Circumstances were different in the previous 2 teams situation.

Mack is gonna be an amazing player but is he gonna keep up ppg pace for the rest of this season? Their D is pretty questionable right now too.
All I'm saying is a first from them could work out pretty favourably for us, as opposed to a team like Dallas, who have a need for Ras but no first, and a 27 first would almost certainly be in the bottom 10 of the first round.

Of course I would take their 1st over Dallas. I would take the Leaf's 1st in 28/29 over Dallas's 1st as Dallas is 2nd in the league and unlikely to be a top 25 pick.
PPG for Mack? He is on pace for 123 points, yes, he will continue at least a PPG pace unless he gets injured.

My bad lol. Read his apples as total points. 33 assists in 34 is wild, he will definitely hit 90 or 100. And I probably shouldn't say he will be an amazing player as he already is.
