While I don’t condone belittling door knockers. Just politely tell them to leave.
I hate door knockers of all stripes. The last thing I want to do is talk politics with some random who knocks on my door at some random inconvenient time. Don’t get me started on sales people.
So do I, so I slapped up an ugly NO SOLICITING sign on my door. I’ve seen it work (people walk up and then walk away on their own), and sometimes it doesn’t. If someone misses it or doesn’t understand it I just say “sorry this is why I have the sign, I don’t take door to door sales/pitches of any kind”

I should put one up and just tap the sign if someone does knock!

That’s why a ring camera is the best. A lanyard around the neck. Notta chance I’m opening. I would be more rude but they know where I live. Phone solicitors on the other hand, I am going to hell evil.
Unless the actual candidate is knocking, fata off.
The worst are those losers downtown with lanyards stopping people to chat to sell something.
I almost enjoy opening the door and seeing a Telus lanyard. I just start laughing and say no no no shaking my head as I shut the door, then look through the peephole as they look at each other in utter confusion. They don't know my history with Telus.
So my wife is volunteering for the liberal candidate in our area. Out door knocking, she encounters mostly Conservatives, but generally all very polite and respectful, as you'd expect. We're Calgarians and neighbours and this is real life, not the internet.
Anyway, queue one white trash POS a-hole who ripped up the brochure she handed to him, threw it at her, then told her to pick it up for littering.
I want to ruin this man in every way conceivable. I'm not going to, obviously, but my seething hatred for this scumbag is palpable.
Guys...if a political volunteer comes to your door they are unpaid normies who are doing what they think is something that will help their country. Don't be ####ing dirt bag #### faces to them.
I know you don’t want to ruin his life, but he was a super dink and that’s not cool.
Perhaps CP could brainstorm some mild inconveniences to hex upon him. It’s puts you at arms length but you still get the vindication.
I’m going to suggest a small stencil with the word “DINK” in a bold block font, use an arrow to indicate the direction of his home.
Now under cover of darkness head to the sidewalk in front of his house and using a hydrophobic sealant paint the stencil.
Now wait for a rainfall of any type and the world will in fact know where the Dink lives.
Important - Be sure to point the arrow in the correct direction.
Fun fact - spring in Calgary is usually quite wet from precipitation events.

I just don’t get the whole Door to Door thing. There’s never been someone at the door with a grand revelation. Yeah, I’m well aware of what you’re pitching, and if I needed it, or wanted more information about it, I have internet.
Having said that, I still give a polite “not for me, but thanks.” And that’s usually the end of it.

Someone started this thread with lots of ideas that would mildly inconvenience him. Might want to err on the non-burglary side but seems like a good place to start.
The trick is to answer the door like you're expecting them as a person coming to buy something from you. Don't let them get a word in as you guide them to the garage for the "thing".
Keep something really uncomfortable on hand.

Honestly, you wouldn't think it works, but it does. Yesterday she engaged with a family 'on the fence' and they wanted to know more about the LGBTQ stance of the party and our candidate specifically. My wife shared with them what she could, and asked if they'd like a follow up from the candidate. They did, and she set it up.
Every democracy does this. Like, literally, every candidate. From JFK, to Obama, to AOC (her worn out shoes from canvassing are in the Smithsonian, I believe).
You mostly get closed doors, but that doesn't mean it's fruitless and it is a part of the responsibility of engaging in our democracy
It's also one of many tactics. She has spent hours on the phone. Mostly gets 'no thank yous,' but also gets people willing to share, talk and engage. On the phones she talks to people from across Canada. She's learned a lot about the concerns of people who work in auto manufacturing in Ontario, for example, which has forced her to learn the platforms of both parties on that front so she can speak with them on the issues. Really healthy for East and West Canadians to engage in this way.
I'm really proud of her and I think you guys that think what she is doing is 'annoying' are total losers. She is trying to help Canada.

No, I actually do want to ruin his life lol. But undermining what my wife is doing wouldn't be worth it hah. Plus I'm voting liberal this time around, too, so his behaviour just makes me want Conservatives to lose even more. I'll be the bigger man, I guess. Tough guy throwing balled up paper at a tiny 5'3" chick. Real winner.
Yeah this is the type of person to pick a fight about everything. Always a victim. I bet they are constantly complaining to what few friends they have about how poorly treated they are in every aspect of their lives and how everyone else is an idiot.

The only time it makes sense to me is if it's the candidate themself at the door. Nenshi got my vote in 2010 by personally chatting with me for a few minutes.
But a volunteer doing it? Nah, sorry I'm not interested is talking with you. Not gonna take someone's word that their candidate is super awesome just because.
Still wouldn't be a child like that dick was to slivers wife though. I recall reading an article saying in 2021 a liberal volunteer was spat on and threatened

Yeah! You save that condescending door-to-door solicitation rage for the Jehova's Witnesses!
At least you can be 100% certain they're misguided. But political canvassing? Thats part of the gig.
I will usually attempt to listen if I have time, but I'd never be rude. Its part of the gig and its a tough gig. It usually doesn't take much time or effort to simply be polite, take a flyer or brochure or whatever they're handing out and explain that you have to go.
"I must go! My planet needs me!!"
