Everybody probably got so accustomed to the “lane ends” signs on Deerfoot that never actually meant anything.

The 'seat thing' is ridiculous to me.
Its a flight. I've been on enough of them that unless its a sumo wrestler in a Grateful Dead t-shirt and an F-you hat, you just take your seat, movie on, headphones on and away we go.
I've sat next to my wife on countless flights and separated on a number of other ones. The only real benefit of sitting together is that she is legally obligated to either not be annoyed by me and/or by law required to forgive any transgressions.

I have a bad knee and when possible avoid those seats. I politely told them that I had paid for that seat including because of my knee. They said they couldnt' sit in their assigned seats because someone else was in there, but refused to tell me which seats those were. I said if there was a family with kids trying to sit togehter, I would make sure they can do that. They continued to argue with me until the flight attendant had to get involved.
Why do people do this? it puts the other person in an awkward position where you feel like you are somehow the bad guy in the whole thing.
Again, if there is a young child needing to sit with a parent, I'm 100% fine with accomodating that. But I'm not going to take a worse seat so you and your partner can sit together.
And then on the second flight dude next to me had taken something and was out of it. He spent most of the flight full on sleeping on my chest and shoulder. I'll be honest, I was intimidated by him. He was very large, grumpy, and just seemed off. I didn't want to have a real problem with him while hurtling through the sky.
Long day of travel.

Ya, why would you need to sit next to your spouse. Like fata, who cares. Why are you chatting anyway, you're married. Hell, even after my kids turned 10 or probably younger I didn't give a fata if they sat elsewhere. Maybe because I didn't raise them to be totally fataing useless. Crap, my 14 year old flew to Costa Rica alone at Christmas with layover.

This highlights the difference between geers and accountants, geers are sensitive and co-dependent while accountants are cold hearted cheapskates.

Some people have anxiety and need to sit near their partner.
In which case of course they absolutely need to book the seats together. I am not condoning those who fail to book beside each other and then expect it, just answering why some people may want or need to sit beside a known commodity...

So you can be disturbed hundreds of times during the flight and get peak level annoyed having to repeatedly pause your show and take your headphones off to find out what meaningless thing they absolutely must in that instant ask you about.
It's written right there in the terms and conditions of your marriage license.

You're too nice; I used to fly over 100 times a year, air travel vets don't let that sһit slide. We paid to hand pick where we sit because we wanted to sit there and not anywhere else. You can either pay me $100 cash right now to sit in my seat and I'll take yours, or you can fuсk off back to your own.
Also, you know when the flight lands and the seatbelt sign turns off: if you're in an aisle seat and you or the person you're traveling with put something in the overhead bin, would you please stand the fuсk up and take it out of the bin already? Being stopped at the gate and waiting for the bridge connection is the perfect time to get prepared to GTFO the damn plane, all you're doing is making everyone wait for your slow ass while the front half of the plane is completely empty. Our airlines aren't exactly running with the punctuality of Germany's rail timetable and people have connections to catch, so at least act like you have somewhere important to be, please.
I could rant about stupid people making air travel a nuisance ad nauseam.

One of my favourite flying stories was from London back to Calgary, I was flying solo at the time and I ended up sitting next to a British soldier and we just wound up getting absolutely smashed! It was a great time!
But he was sitting next to me and his wife and 3 kids were in the middle of the plane several rows back.
We stumbled off the plane in Calgary and this guy is in full uniform, everything, and we were just hammered because we were drinking the whole time while his wife had to take care of the kids.
Oh man...when we got in to Calgary if looks could kill that lady would have unapologetically murderized me. The condition in which her husband was returned to her and the kids was absolutely beyond reprehensible.
He slaps my back at baggage claim: "That was the greatest flight I've ever been on!! No wife! No kids! Just beer and stories!"
Oh that lady though....I did not envy that guy when he sobered up.
I grabbed my bags and..."gotta grab a cab!" And I got the hell out of there. Oh she was 'fast-walking' towards me and I could see the violence in her eyes.
She did everything but angrily shake her fist at me.

So we board and I ask the young guy in the third of the middle three if he was with anyone else and he said no. Then I asked if he wanted my window seat and that would let us three sit together. At first I figured this guy is getting a big win, he can get a window seat for a 9 hour flight.
So we switch and then turns out a woman and her annoying baby come and sit next to him.
Sorry bud, no take backs. Enjoy your flight. I enjoyed mine.
