I should add that for somebody who gets as much grief as Berrettini does for his backhand, it looked pretty good to me today. Especially that slice backhand, it was giving Zverev all kinds of trouble today.
Edit: 48 shot rally below...

Our former Canadian now Chilean Alejandro Tabilo just knocked out Djokovic 6-3 6-4 in Monte-Carlo. Tabilo played a solid match but Novak was far from his best. This has been a trend in recent years where it takes Novak some time to get the motor running prior to RG.

Looks like this will be his last year. Father time finally caught up to him.

It makes me wonder if he wants to win at least four more ATP tourneys to match Roger at 103. He at least wants to get to 100.

isn't Jimmy's total fluffed up by a lot of low level tourneys? Maybe Djoker should come play the Edgemont Club classic for a few years

As Djokovic's career winds down I'm curious what you think will be the most unbreakable records held by each of the big 3. In my mind I think the hardest ones for anyone to break would be:
- Nadal's 97% winning percentage at the French open (or any major for that matter)
- Federer's 5 consecutive wins at two different majors or his 10 consecutive final appearances at a major
- Djokovic winning 3 slams in a calendar year - 12 years apart (2011 and 2023)
I'm sure I'm missing a crazy record for one of them, but I just can't see how anyone could break the above records.

I think at some point we will see either Sinner or Alcaraz win three slams in a calendar year and if I had to pick the guy to do it, I would choose Jannik. The tricky part is doing it 12 years apart though lol.
As for the first two listed above, I don't see anybody matching Nadal's 97% winning percentage at the French Open although if anybody could it, it might be Joao Fonseca. 10 consecutive final appearances at a major if something I don't think we will see again though.

my picks
Fed - 23 consecutive major semifinals Wimbledon 2004 to Australian Open 2010
Rafa - 14 titles at one major
Djoker - 24 majors

I'd love to see Sinner or Alcaraz challenge some of their records eventually. 24 slams is going to be super difficult for either of them to come close to.
I forgot about the semi-finals for Federer. Basically 6 years without an injury or a bad match at a major is insane.
I'm looking forward to seeing how good Fonseca can be, but I can't picture that kind of winning percentage when he's going to play a lot of his prime against Sinner and Alcaraz who are both good on Clay.
At least there are finally some players to get excited about again because it was bleak there for a while.

On this topic, we have the first ever clash between Fils and Charlie on Friday in Monte-Carlo. Get your popcorn ready.

It's crazy how consistently good the Big Three were and it grinds my gears when tennis twitter is ripping on the young guys when they lose a match they feel they should have won. I doubt we will ever see anyone replicate Novak, Roger, and Rafa, but Charlie is doing some pretty impressive things at his young age.

At 21 Federer hadn't really become consistent at all, and then he became the king of consistency throughout the later 2000's.
Sinner has less runway now that he's already 23 but until this recent ban he'd been looking consistently good. Carlos has lots of time to work out how to hopefully stay injury free and win the matches he should win.
At 21 I couldn't even consistently attend University classes.

I will say Sinner's game last year up until his suspension was extremely good. Almost Djokovic-like consistency but with more power on both sides. It will be interesting to see how long it takes him to get back to where he left off as he was on an impressive run.

Canada is taking part in a BJK Cup qualifying play-off in Japan against Romania and the host nation. Overnight, Canada swept Romania 3-0 as Victoria Mboko and Marina Stakusic won their singles matches while Rebecca Marino and Kayla Cross were victorious in doubles.

Pretty good match between Charlie and Arthur Fils saw Charlie advance in three sets 4-6 7-5 6-3.

Alex De Minaur and Grigor Dimitrov have played eight games in their match thus far. Alex has won all eight.
Edit: De Minaur delivers a double bagel to Dimitrov. Devastating demolition from Demon.

Grigor didn't even get a single *game* point the entire match. It might as well have been one of us out there

Fils has got way more pop on that forehand than I thought. And I keep forgetting he's younger than Charlos. I see top 6 potential in him, though it could get crowded depending on how Fonseca, Mensik, and Rune (is he still a prospect lol) come along
edit - Forgot about Draper too

Both guys committed a lot of unforced errors, but that's going to happen when you're hitting the ball that hard. I also think that's the way you need to play against Charlie, you need to try to keep the points as short as possible because once you're get into an extended rally with Alcaraz, you're in trouble.
