Catastrophic collapse in the third period.. hopefully they're pissed and come out flying on Friday. Need to run the table now for any chance of catching St. Louis.

0/6 on the PowerPlay in a must-win game is just so crushing though. Giveaway's and brain-dead defence immediately after Coronato's goal sure didn't help either.

####.. that one stings.

Just put Parekh and Suniev in. What do you have to lose at this point?

Likely the decision on Parekh is as much Conroy's as Huska.

Like they did when the Flames went up 3-1 with minutes to play?

Actually, if we run the table they need 3 points in 2 games.

There is still a chance. Would have been nice to be able to rely on an OT loss in another game but TBH the result doesn't change a whole lot.

Flames probably always needed to get to 96 and hope one of these teams were stuck at 95.
Finally.

This is correct.

Due to Calagry losing the tie breaker, they always had one point to gamble with, either the Flames losing in OT or the Wild or Blues getting to OT and losing.

Calagry now needs to run the table, beating the Wild on Friday has to be assumed.

Then hope one of the Blues or the Wild fail to get 3 points.

The hardest part is Calgary running the table. And they likely need to beat the Wild in regulation, even allowing the Wild one point puts the Wild in the situation of needing only 2 points in 2 games, far easier than 3 points in 2 games.

The Dome will be rocking on Friday.

None of the four Ducks goals were from the slot. All of them in the circles, and three of them near the dot.

I don't call any of them bad goals, but the volume of 4 goals in 10 minutes is a little out of character for Wolf.

Sometimes he's small in the net, and he was on two of the final four goals.

I can promise you that Craig wants to see Parekh in the lineup more than any of us.
He's their golden egg at this point.

But the decision isn't Craig's alone, at least he'd never force anyones hand to make it happen. The decision has to come from the coaching staff and management group together as that's the respect Craig has for his staff.

With that said, I see very little reason not to slot Zayne in for Bean next game. Play him 8-10 minutes at even strength and give him ALL the PP time on PP1 group. Boy that group looked lifeless, even more so when we lost Frost.

Can't see the coach taking Bean coming out of the lineup. Not because he's earned anything, but because that would mean moving Weegar over to play with Parekh and moving Hanley down to play with Pachal.

Pachal coming out is the likely option, but then that means Bean & Parekh on a pairing which wouldn't be ideal.

Too much upheaval or putting our star draft pick behind the 8 ball? Guess those are the choices. I go option 1.

Also any word on Frost?

They weren’t point blank. Goal 3 was an open shot from the left face off dot. Goal 4 was from the circle, above the level of the face off dot. Both were unobstructed.

These are shots a goalie of Wolf’s quality normally saves. Plus he fumbled the puck behind the net and got beaten cleanly on another shot that hit the post. It wasn’t his best work in the third and OT.

If Frost is out they have that 11/7 option

You should if you're outplaying the other team which they were. At no point during that game before the chokejob was I worried the Ducks were on the verge of scoring and Wolf needed to bail them out like the first period against San Jose where the team was horrible.

Then Coronoto scores and they stop playing. Wolf included.

Up by 2 with 4 mins left and I think Poppisil made an ill advised pass trying to get the puck to the point through the middle which was easily intercepted by Terry. Smart play would have been keep it down low and cycle. The Flames have been really good of late, but that brain fart snowballed on them.

As it has been discussed the head to head is still a big game and the Flames were fortunate to have STL lose in regulations with seconds on the clock. It won't be easy, but what about this season has been.

I wasn't able to stay awake long enough to see the third period. Thank god. I don't think I could handle that sort of heartbreak in real time.

I think it's fair to say that if a team is playing for their playoff lives and are up 2 goals late in such an important game, and then they collapse with 5 minutes left and end up losing that game, they probably don't deserve to be in the playoffs.

I've liked the pluck and character of this team, but they probably got what they deserved in the end. It's been a good learning experience for a lot of the younger guys, and even some of the veterans, but stick a fork in 'em, they're done (barring a miracle because they aren't mathematically out yet).

They will play the game on Friday against Minny as if they are still in the race. As they should, because you should always try until you're mathematically out, but perhaps by Sunday they can get a few youngsters some game time to assess where they are at going into the off-season.

It should be an interesting post-mortem analysis when the season is over. Lots of interesting storylines with individual players and the team in general. This was a much better season than I ever thought it would be, and it was a good step in the right direction to rebuild a culture and identity. Lots more work to be done though.

You can say these things as much as you want but it doesn't make them more true. No goalie in the league has that type of out-sized impact particularly when you replace him with "almost any goalie in the league". There are a lot of good goalies. He's had a great season. He's stolen points. But you are over-stating it massively.

Either way - the Flames made me real proud of the way they played this year. They gave us a improbable playoff race run that no one would have expected.

The future is bright in Calgary.

Yeah they weren't great goals to give up given how important two points were to the Flames. Because of his size, positioning is a need of constant refinement but given this is his first season of NHL hockey I'm not too worried as he's nowhere near a finished product.
