The thing is that Conservative support is pretty strong. By that I mean many Conservative voters made their minds up 20 years ago that they were going to vote that way. So the support they do have is very strong. So thats why they are getting good turnouts to these events.

The problem they have is that its not like voters go to the polls and state out of a scale of 10 my support for the Conservatives is 10 and the Conservatives get 10 votes. Whereas a less decisive voter might be at 6, but vote Liberal. So long as that person votes Liberal it counts the same.

If voters continue to view this as a two party race I think the Liberals win. If Carney does poorly in the debates and some of the weaker Liberal support goes home to thr NDP or Bloc or back to the Conservatives than I think it would be another minority. I'd be pretty surprised if it was a Conservative majority. Things changed significantly in 4 months.

I’ve been burned pretty hard on looking at rally sizes with the Kamala hype.

Yes, it was held at the Red & White Club. It was packed to the gills and a lot were turned away. Carney is a much more genuine speaker than Poilievre and sure didn't come off as boring or dull.

A couple of Free Palestine hecklers disrupted the start but they were escorted out quickly.

To be honest, these days I would absolutely love an extremely boring person running our country. Contrary to the reality TV show we see to the South.

Be boring, and just do your job. That's all I want. And that's not good for PP if a lot of people feel that way. He wants confrontation, insults and stupid nicknames. That stuff is beyond lame to me. It's a huge turn off.

He remarked that he’d done some research into the Economist, and since he learned it was partly owned by the Rothschilds, he wouldn’t trust a word they printed. That’s the base of the CPC and UCP today. They put far more trust in guys who earn millions in crypto than a graduate or Oxford who held the highest posts in banking.
Cliff, no disrespect, but do you engage in any other periodicals beyond the Economist and the Atlantic?

The CBC
Globe & Mail
The Guardian
The BBC
Reuters

The Economist and the Atlantic typically do more in-depth analysis than the others, so I reference them the most.

Where do you source your news and public affairs?

Also, the reason I cited the Economist to the person is question is that someone on the right isn’t likely going to give much credence to content published by the Guardian or CBC, will they? Just as I expect you don’t give much credence to the Economist. The point of the anecdote was that while moderate conservatives of a decade ago would regarded the Economist as credible, the swivel-eyed populists of 2025 see it as just another organ of sinister elite institutions.

The rapid disassociation by conservatives from their traditional touchstones - success, money, influence, etc - over the last few years is something to see.

Carney would've been every conservative's wet dream candidate just a few years ago... ironically at the time when the same conservatives would have been crowing about Trudeau's lack of real world experience... Crazy to see how the tables have turned so quickly and the right is so ready to embrace a candidate that is essentially what they so recently railed against. Wild.

That’s because it’s a cult that doesn’t stand for anything. They treat politics like sports, or religion. And it’s fueled by hate. Con leadership can go full communist and the base would be all in while calling the rest of us, pinkos.

Stroking his ego to the size of his rallies. He really just can't help but emulate Trump, can he?

An entirely unappealing personality.

Congrats, you filled a room in Alberta with supporters, and totally ignores the point of the journalist's question. That ya, you filled a room with supporters in Alberta. Congrats. It's meaningless. I could probably do the same with my cat if I painted her blue.

Liberals still got ~25% of the votes in Calgary in 2021 and CPC got around 20-25% of the vote even in Toronto proper while the pandemic was the biggest concern. Talk of who can fill up rooms where as some type of partisan gotcha is absolutely moronic.

My favourite part of this clip is how his face changes as he goes from aughing about 'does size matter' to 'ugh these reporters' as soon as the question starts to reference woke mob, etc. And he doesn't even answer the ####ing question he just kills time and turns it around asking the reporter about their thoughts about the rally size. We get it, your rallies are big. The base loves you. How are your polling numbers?

Bigly yuuuge crowds. A lot of people are saying these are the biggest crowds theyve ever seen. Can you believe it? They are all saying it. Big men with tears in their eyes coming up to me and saying it.
