Between the factory and farming stuff, it's kind of amazing Americans haven't clued in that Republicans want their citizens working low wage labour. Like, they give zero ####s about you and the life you can afford to have. So ####ing dumb.

Yup, idiots.

Trump apologists say the tariffs will incentivize manufacturers to build plants in the US, ignoring the facts that Trump reverses tariffs regularly, and a new administration in 2029 could reverse them anyway, so there isn’t a dependable motivation. How can anyone plan a business on that?

Not to mention the wage rate gap that still exists between the US and developing nations, and the lack of a trained labor pool for those jobs.

So all the tariffs are is a tax to facilitate a redistribution of wealth via income tax cuts and the talk about rebuilding their manufacturing infrastructure is complete bull####. If any of this was built on actual policy, there would be a massive investment in actually accomplishing that goal. There's zero activity on that front, obviously.

People (and media) keep approaching the Trump administration policies as though they are rational and have an end goal.

They don't. There isn't. It's the deluded ravings of a madman, and his lickspittle enablers who ONLY care about tax breaks for the ultra-wealthy.

The tariffs are a "thing" he can do to show he has power. That's it. There's no strategy here. Just "be nice to me personally, or you get tariffs". When he's up at 3am on the toilet, he reads social media, and decides more tariffs.

How are the tariffs calculated? With wikipedia and chat GPT. There is no hand on the wheel of the American economy.

It is nice to see some of the Maga voters start to get hit. That's enjoyable. Hopefully some of them get really really mad about it soon as the bank takes their family farms.

Elections have consequences. Enjoy!

Trump signs an executive order ending "woke policies that discriminate against secure sources of power, like coal and other fossil fuels"
"One thing I learned about the coal miners -- that's what they want to do. You could give them a penthouse on 5th Avenue and a different kind of a job and they'd be unhappy. They want to mine coal. She was gonna put them in a high tech industry where you make little cell phones and things."

So close to saying the children yearn for the mines...

As Jon Stewart said yesterday, the robots would be putting the screws in. It'd be our job to keep the robots lubed so it's good for screwing. Robbed of our future robot fluffer jobs, I hate this decade..

WHAT?!?!?!

Isn't that the point of all these stupid tariffs?
To get Apple to hire Americans to make little cell phones and things?

The thing I don't get about a lot of these Trump voters who now have regret, is how many say things like that they thought he would be like Trump in the first term and that is what they wanted. Did they not realize that he was a piece of garbage then as well? None of this is new, except for the lack of checks and balances. He tried tariffs back then, as well as mass deportations, and dabbling in authoritarianism.

Yup. Tim Cook was interviewed 5 or 6 years ago and tried to dispel the racist idea from the majority of the west who say that you go to China for cheap, low cost, low skill labour by saying that you don't go to China for low cost, you go to China for high skill in production. The skillset needed to use the technology needed to produce many of today's goods simply isn't there in the west.

And since then, China has moved to almost full automation and robots now in many industries. The whole bringing this stuff back to America is hilarious.

I love the daily updates in here.

...as a point of reference the peak to trough on the '22 drawdown on the Nasdaq was 35%, and that was all the Fed hikes to stamp out inflation.

A lot of folks thought the culprit for inflation was the size of the federal deficit. The US was starting to hit its speed limit for debt issuance as the coverage ratios at the treasury auctions were decreasing to worrying levels.

Cutting govt spending is their idea to drive down inflation. Tariff inflation is considered a one off, and the Fed has lots of altitude to cut rates from the latest hiking cycle.

I'm not saying it's right.
