Perhaps they are angry that they can’t make fun of his hair.

Mark, he’s just that much better…

The only consistent thing about conservatives is how consistently their principles change when the narrative no longer serves them.

Ask the English how well that went:

The wide range of criticism included Carney’s left-wing politics, such as his championing of radical environmentalist policies like net-zero emissions, along with his opposition to Brexit, his political inexperience, dull personality, volatile temper, lousy track record at the Bank of England and more.
Quote:
As Lynn noted, “Over eight years at the Bank of England, Carney was at best an indifferent governor, and, at worse, a disappointing failure.“ Despite his huge salary of more than £600,000 a year, more than any of his predecessors had been paid, he seemed to have little feel for the role. The City quickly nick-named him ‘the unreliable boyfriend’ for his constant changes of direction on interest rates.”

By the time Carney left the central bank, he had “created a mess which his successors have struggled to clear up. Inflation spiked up to a peak of 11.1 per cent in the U.K., compared to 5.2 per cent in France or eight per cent in Italy, hardly a country known for controlling prices effectively, largely because the bank had printed too much money.”
Quote:
Here’s the real kicker: “Carney is the epitome of a remote, globalized, technocratic elite. He is very good at self-promotion, at collecting trophy jobs and of course negotiating fabulously generous salaries and expenses for himself along the way. He is just not very good at delivering.”

Canadians should keep Lynn’s analysis in mind when they eventually head to the polls. Indeed, the British media warned about Carney for years. Many on the left and right didn’t particularly like him, and often spoke out strongly against him. Canada’s Liberals either weren’t aware of what was being said, didn’t heed the warnings or ignored them entirely. If the Carney experiment fails, we’ll know exactly who to praise — and who to blame.

You mean ask a writer for the Epoch Times, quoting a poorly reviewed fellow columnist who predicted the iPhone would never amount to anything and was a heavy supporter of Brexit?

No thanks, might use my actual brain instead.

How mush-brained do you have to be at this point to still believe Brexit was a good idea?

Ironhorse with another great example of how media literacy is completely dead on the right.

I was kind of hoping MAGA conservatives up here were just slightly more intelligent than their American counterparts. Sadly, this isn’t the case.

The Conservatives of 12 years ago would be crowing about those credentials. But conservatism in Canada has been taken over by populists who regard all of that institutional experience as deeply suspicious. They hate Oxford, Harvard, central banks, and economists.

Last summer I was talking to a guy who has become radicalized about an article I’d read in the Economist. He remarked that he’d done some research into the Economist, and since he learned it was partly owned by the Rothschilds, he wouldn’t trust a word they printed. That’s the base of the CPC and UCP today. They put far more trust in guys who earn millions in crypto than a graduate or Oxford who held the highest posts in banking.

Best you keep who is and isn't on your ignore list private. 2 reasons. 1, they don't care and 2. It's for your piece of mind. You won't be torturing someone's soul telling them they are on your ignore list. Just ignore them and be done with it.

The NP opinion piece(and that's what it is) was written by one of Harper's ex speech writers. Like, what kinda spin do you think it's gonna have? Oh look, another free ad for the Conservatives disguised as an article. And y'all complain about the CBC?

I mean, I did read it. What did I miss from the article outside of some people didn't like him? The main attack on his "record" was about inflation during Brexit, which is where my comment came from.

Question for you the article appears to pit Carneys opposition no Brexit as a negative trait. How does that make sense? And how once they show their obliviousness to the economic consequences of Brexit do you trust the rest of that article?

Being British I will chime in here, Brexit was a catastrophically bad idea mostly promoted by a vocal segment of the Conservative Party, they sold it obviously as something that would 'unleash' the UK's potential that they said the EU was holding back, it didnt because it was a terrible idea rooted in backward looking hubris, anger and jealousy of German manufacturing and a nostalgic desire to return to the good old days when you could buy a really crappy British car made by a low paid British factory worker (sound familiar!!), no one wanted to admit the truth that the UK is bog awful at making things.

Because the UK outside the EU was always going to the poverty-stricken sinking rat hole that it immediately became the morons promoting Brexit looked around for someone to blame for the UK being pretty crap at pretty much everything.

Carney very vocally warned voters that jumping off a cliff economically was a really really bad idea and they have never forgiven him for that, he was a pretty good chancellor, it is partly due to him Brexit wasnt as bad as economists predicted but he was blamed because it turned out the sun doesn't shine out of the UK's jacksie and countries (especially the US) weren't lining up to give us chunks of their market to make up for the loss of the EU, the twats blaming Carney are the same f*** wits that claimed Brexit would, and I quote, 'be all the easiest trade deal in history' and the EU would give us totally free access without asking the UK to follow their rules, this plan was summed up by Boris Johnson as 'get cake, eat cake'

Brexit, Take Back Alberta, Project 2025, the war on Ukraine.

Has anything major that conservatives rallied behind or even continue to support been anything but a complete disaster mitigated only by adults in the room having some remaining power to stop the bleeding?

Modern conservativism is insane. This broken ideology is actively destroying the world.

Whenever someone brings up Brexit all I can think of is the guy on twitter from 8 or 9 years ago comparing it to building a submarine out of cheese.
Makes me laugh every time.

I’m not super well informed on Brexit, how it all worked and what all the benefits / drawbacks were etc. but doesn’t the logic flow through that if Britain was better off as an EU member then Canada is better off with the USA as one North American “continental free trade zone” (if you believe it would be a free trade setup) and the spin off ancillary benefits of that union?
