That team needs a big shot in the arm. If he looks the part down there for playoffs it’ll go a long way in preparing him to make the Flames out of camp next season. Showing he can handle the AHL game already.
|
Hypothetically, say we do make it? Can he go to the AHL anyways or do we need to be eliminated? What if we wanted him to go to the AHL right now? Not allowed?

If he plays a few games with the Flames, can he still play playoff games in the AHL?

I understand the idea behind the approach of letting the players who have fought all season be the ones who play these important games but couldn't he help this team? Sam Bennett was brought in for playoff games and Parekh is a more accomplished prospect than Bennett was. Bennett came in and provided a great spark and even chipped in offensively. Is it better to have Bean and Pachal and an injured Andersson in there?
Or couldn't they go with 11F-7D and see how he looks?

Yup. He's under NHL contract, so he can play NHL games at any time, and AHL games after his CHL club is eliminated.

Bennett pretty much made the team in training camp but spent most of the year injured. Parekh was nowhere near ready to make the team in training camp.
Also, Bennett was playing a much easier position. If he blew an assignment, he had the defencemen to cover for him. Parekh not only can't afford to blow assignments, he's expected to help cover for forwards who blow theirs. Hard to do when everyone is ramped up for the playoffs and you've never even played pro.
For clarity, I think Parekh should get some games, and I don't think they should wait until they're eliminated to put him in. But I can't imagine putting him in without at least one practice.

Assuming 89 for this season since thats what he had in camp. Maybe 19 once he's a full time Flame, but maybe he ends up liking 89 for the Calgary connection

All I can get

A somewhat hobbled Rasmus Andersson could be a game time decision from here on out, with Parekh on stand-by.
Some players move up in the pairings and the youngster is slotted on the third.

Ya, he is actually confident, cocky, and smart. Those are good qualities. He believes he is going to be a star and why shouldn't he?

Shown as 89 on the Flames roster page, but until he plays a regular season game we'll see.

My take on him at the start of this year is that he was too cocky and he figured out pretty quickly that he was in over his head. Hopefully next season he shows up a little more humble and lets his skillset do the talking.

I thought I herd something around Rhett Warrener talking about how they wanted Dion Phaneuff to play during the 04 run?
I maybe completely out to lunch on that, I feel the team will generally prefer the best chance to win and if that means he plays then I cannot see them worried about chemistry in the locker room. Just my 2 cents really.
But I agree I don't see him playing this year, just cause its a very Flames thing to do.

Biggest mistake in ‘04 was not playing Phaneuf in the finals

Rhett said that the players in 2004 were begging for Dion in the playoffs, they wanted the help.

Yeah that's what I thought I herd as well. They are competitors and want the best chance to win. No different then a trade deadline, this could be the boost they want and need.
But again I doubt he plays.

I simply don't understand it. We have the option to slot in 100 point record setting offensive dman into an offensively challenged line-up, and we're deciding not to because it will "hurt people's feelings?" Scratching ny head here. It would be amazing for his development. It would make fans more invested. It would show him what it takes to succeed in the NHL when games are meaningful. It could give us an edge to possibly secure that last spot. This organization makes no sense sometimes.
Like who in their right mind would keep Injured -33 Andersson in, or Jake Bean? Play the kid. Let the fans get excited about something if we're likely to miss anyway.

Weird take. You infer that a few interviews where he rubbed you the wrong way have any bearing on how his team mates see him.
I don’t think you are very self aware. You have nothing in common with him or his team mates. Neither do I, but I understand that.
Most of us should stick to our lanes. You know how he makes you feel, and that’s it. Stop there.

Many of the peanut gallery have seemingly never been all hands on deck on a win at all costs project, so they say things like ‘wreck the chemistry’ or ‘he didn’t earn it.’
Reality is that good team mates are in it for the team. They want the team to win. They don’t care who helps them because that doesn’t diminish being part of a winning team.
Feelings won’t be hurt if Zayne helps us, and they won’t be hurt if he plays and doesn’t help us. The point is use all the bullets and try to get into the post season.
Thinking that adding Zayne and letting him help will hurt chemistry says more about the naysayers than it does about anything else IMO. I would not want to be on a team with people like that.
