Connor McDavid is still out of action after being diagnosed with fœtor oculitis, better known as Stink Eye.
He caught it from Mike Smith a few years ago.

A known cause is digging…in…right effing now! Scream it when you say it to convince teammates that it’s important.
Honestly though, are you sure that he would waste his amazing powers of recuperation and his private medical staff on one injury only? He’s probably got at least Eye Stink too.

More oilers medical staff shenanigans! This is Matheson in the journal this morning:
Coming back from his high ankle sprain, and wanting to play with the Oilers only having 11 healthy forwards, he gutted it out through seven minutes. But, maybe he shouldn’t be playing quite yet, where the team has to clearly balance getting him some adjusting to a new team some action before playoffs (just six games left) and Frederic maybe compromised on a sore foot.

If you only have 11 healthy forwards, you can make an emergency callup.
This means one of three things:
1. The Oilers haven't got anyone in Bakersfield who's any better than a player with a high ankle sprain who has never played with the team before.
2. The Oilers just don't give a damn about the health of their players.
3. Both of the above.
None of these explanations look good on them.

It's a grim night for Day, but a happy day for Knight. Chicago may have a rotten team, but if you have money, the actual city is a hell of a lot better than Edmonton.
Maybe the Hawks can make a mercy trade over the summer. It could make a Knight and Day difference for that poor young goalie.

Yet Kane is ready to go and the league is just letting them make a mockery of the cap keeping him on LTIR.

Chicago is a fantastic city, and if you have money one of the best in the US, easily. Comparing Chicago to Edmonton is like comparing a fine steak to getting kicked in the nuts. They aren't even in the same category and one really sucks.

The rules for that are foolish, but well established. It would really be a mockery if the Oilers were forbidden to do that after so many other teams have done the same thing.
That said, I expect Kane to make zero impact when he comes back.

Also let’s not kid ourselves. A high ankle sprain that has kept the player out for months is not equivalent to “a sore foot”, whether or not medical practitioner Matheson thinks so.
And he played 7 minutes.

When is the last time the Oilers had a GM that didn't seem to be sabotaging the team?

Wow multiple instances of rushing players back and it ending badly for them.
Finally the years of player mismanagement is coming back to haunt them, and in their expected cup favorites season!
I'd be surprised if it doesn't directly lead to a premature ending to their season.
The timeline is awfully tight now to believe that Draisaitl will be 100% in time for playoffs.
What a gongshow.

Makes you wonder what the common denominator that has stuck around through all these GMs.

Karma for doing the opposite of rushing a player back with Kane.
