The likelihood that we go undefeated is effectively 0%, and even during Minny's bad stretch recently, over their last 10 they are still playing at .500 points percentage.

Great season overall, but time to play the kids IMO.
If we win out, and Minny goes 2-1-1, we're in.
If we go 5-1, Minny goes 1-2-1, we're in.
4-2 us = 0-3-1 requirement for Minny.
3-2-1 us = 0-4 requirement for Minny.

By my rudimentary review:
Minny has lost 4 in a row once.
Minny went 1-3 four times.
1-2-1 once.
1-1-2 once.
2-2 a bunch of times.

None of those overlap, so that means Minny has had no less than 7-4 game segments so far this year which would leave us in control, if we do what we need to do.

She ain't over yer...

Eliminated Saturday night...not sure if they'd send him right to California or if he'd head to Calgary first, then to play tonight...just a lot to take in during a 48 hour period.

But by Wednesday he can be around the team for a day or two, get a couple skates in, and then play against Anaheim.

I suppose that is fair, but he has shown to go with guys he can "trust", which is why we have seen Hunt get into games this year over less experienced kids. I don't see him taking a veteran out who has been with the group all year for a 19 year old until we are officially out of it, but I'd love to be wrong.

To me Zayne should be dressing tonight - but I can understand it from a coaching perspective.

Our third pairing has already been getting heavily sheltered minutes over the past month and quite frankly have not been doing a good enough job - I see no reason Zayne couldn't get the same treatment. He would provide a massive skill boost to this roster.

I think expectations may need to be brought down here. Cale Makar is like the best player in the NHL with 7 years in the league now and came in at the end of his draft plus 2 year.
I think the reason so many of us are excited about this player is what we see him being in his seventh year in the league.

I generally agree. But if there's any team to ease in against, it's them. Mind you Anaheim was bad last game too.

It's based on the player's age when he signed his contract. Parekh signed shortly after the draft as an 18 year-old, so his contract can slide 2 seasons or until he has played 10 NHL games (regular season and/or playoff).

If a player signs as a 19 year-old, the contract can slide for 1 season. If a player is over 20 when he signs, there is no slide and the clock starts ticking immediately. If a player signs after March 1, he can sign a contract that starts the following year, but still play in the AHL on a tryout contract (this is what a lot of college players do), but he can also sign a contract that starts immediately (which is what Gaudreau and Suniev both did) and burns off the first year of the contract even though it's only valid for a short part of the season.

We often think of it as a college thing because college players tend to be over 20 when they sign their first contracts, however, a young college player can still have their contract slide. When Makar signed with the Avs, it was considered a 19 year-old contract and could have slid if he had played fewer than 10 games. He ended up playing exactly 10 games in the playoffs that season, so his contract didn't slide.

Cale Makar is hardly the only player to make his debut late in the season or in the playoffs. Tom Wilson, Kasperi Kapanen, Jacob Silverberg, Charlie MacAvoy, Chris Kreider, Mark Stone etc, and much more examples of guys with only a few games.

The excuses not to play him just aren't valid. If the coaching staff feels he's mentally and physically ready to play a game, then he should play. All the other factors are horse####.

Yeah, I agree with the fact that Parekh is pretty much a lock to be better than anyone else currently occupying that rotating 6th defenceman slot. But when I weigh what’s better for the team vs better for the player, I lean towards more practice and watching a game or two. I’d rather Parekh go in with some familiarity and comfort so he can play his game without spending too much time in-game figuring out the systems and how his partner and certain forwards play. Any head start he gets on that is going to be worthwhile.

To the Dryden Hunt thing though, he’s played 4 games and Huska just plays who Conroy calls up. Klapka has been a good counter example. Way more games played at this point, and plenty of opportunity despite a rough start to the year during his first few callups. Then you look at higher talent guys like Coronato and Zary, and they’re given the reigns.

And I’m sure they’re not thinking that way at flames management.

Zayne Parekh Is in playoff hockey shape. He has surely been aware that as soon as Saginaw season ends, he’s coming to the NHL. His favourite athlete is Kobe. The guy got left off the national team And took it so personally, he nuked his entire league.

I hope Huska learns from team Canada, that even if you only have him at the end of the bench for the power play, you still want to be able to look down the bench and put Zayne Parekh on the ice when you have to have a goal.

Do we even know where the player is? There was one tweet yesterday that he was on his way to "Calgary", but was that the city or the team? Meaning, was he flying to Calgary or was he flying to join the Flames in San Jose?

I wouldn't be surprised if they brought him to Calgary to get settled in and he won't even practice with the team until they're back from California.

Yeah, Wednesday against the Ducks is a little more reasonable. A chance to join the team and get a practice in with the guys. Then, if Huska likes what he sees on the ice, and from the player, there is something doable.

But it's just folly to think he might dress tonight - it would be stupidity

If we can't beat the last place Sharks with an OHL dman inserted into the lineup, do we really deserve playoffs?

I am confident enough to say Perekh's First NHL game > Bean's 257th game.

Yeah but there's a lot of miles of real estate between not playing him tonight and not playing him once over the final 6 games.

If he doesn't play tonight I can understand why not. If they're officially toast with two games left and he isn't played I'd be pretty annoyed.

I think Wednesday is the more logical choice for him to make his debut.

And how do you propose they do that, without getting a practice or two in with the team? That's the point - they can't know yet, and it would be irresponsible to put him in the lineup, until they do know

Yup, Jarome Iginla made his debut in the playoffs as well.

My guess is that they will Parekh go through a physical and fitness testing in Calgary and then have him go through a couple of practices before he gets into a game.

He just finished a season in the OHL and playoffs. Why on Earth would he require fitness testing?
