It's a "problem" that is 100% curable but the punishment $$ outweighs the crime impact so we do this song and dance thing. They could pretty much eliminate speeding... but then no one would speed and generate revenue. Easily. Make the fine $40k for speeding. Its done......but.

Been driving Stoney in the SE/SW for a long time now. What are they doing underneath the overpasses? Is the road above unstable? Now that it's cold they aren't there, but there is usually some work between the overpass girders where they meet the road next to Stoney. I think they've been working on a bridge in the SW over Stoney to 22X west bound for at least two seasons now.

Tonight I noticed all three overpasses near Spruce Meadows had some sort of digging going on around the retaining walls. Of course the speed limit was reduced to 80 km/hr but there was zero actual work going on over the weekend. What could they possibly need to do at these sites?

Continuing some sort of slope modification they started last fall at most of the overpasses. Amazed they didn’t leave the 80 signs up all winter. They seem to hop from spot to spot doing the same thing, so there will be several day with nothing going on, but the signs stay up. Everyone’s been ignoring them, so slowing to 80 would be dangerous.

I think they're installing railings on the u/s of the overpasses.... which apparently couldn't be done BEFORE THE ROAD WAS OPENED and is TAKING YEARS TO COMPLETE.

Also why the hell do they even need railings on those spots when the highway is in the middle of nowhere. WTF

As soon as they're done they'll have to start tearing down the old ones to replace them.

The stuff that fails audits on provincial projects is truly remarkable.

Gotta justify that government work somehow.

I think the railing is there because when you go later to do inspections you would need fall protection if there wasn’t railing present. Seems like an easy thing to do.

As for timing I would suspect it has something to do with soil settlement and fill because they are doing all of them or it was just missed in the original design and needed to get engineered post install.

2 months later.... railings still being "worked on".

Appears to be a crew of 2 poor schmucks going overpass by overpass while leaving the construction signage and lower speed signs up at every overpass in the entire south end of Stoney.

Amazing how incompetent road construction can be here.

Will it carry into 2026?
