LOL. Pinder saying Weeger is "Not the problem."

Well, obviously. What a weird thing to say.

Love the boys, they're great dudes, but Weegar is the least of this team's problems. Keep him forever.

I do think it's a bit concerning that Weegar leads the league in giveaways and defensive zone giveaways by such a huge margin:

Giveaways
1. Weegar 141
2. Karlsson 129
3. Bouchard 124
4. Sergachev 117
5. Sanheim 116

Defensive zone giveaways
1. Weegar 97
2. Carlo 76
3. Harley 76
4. Zadorov 75
5. Cole 74

Interesting that he's apparently a giveaway machine yet leading the team with a plus-13.

You definitely notice his bone head plays that’s for sure. But overall still good.

Meanwhile Rasmus "wants more" Andersson is sporting an eye-catching -31.

Because it's hands down the best Flames related show? I find these 3 doofuses the most honest when it comes to the franchise. The Fan 960 just toes the corporate line and is incredibly boring. I trust the Barnburner show for anything Flames and candy related.

They literally do tell the whole story of what’s happening on the ice. You’re describing the “eye test.”

If they would tell the whole story you could build a team purely based on analytics and win everytime. You can't quantify everything.

Maybe I should give them a listen then. Maybe this small sample isn't ma good representation of the discussions on the show. But this small sample makes them seem like nothing I couldn't get from members here on ignore.

And yes I understand if you haven't tuned in during the last week or two you're likely very confused right now.

Sidenote: I'd be interested in hearing Scorps top 5 candies like his soup list lol.
What kind of candies? Are chocolate bars included? Or just gummy-type stuff?

This, 100%. It's not a perfect show but it's a hell of a lot more raw and honest about the Flames then you get on 960.

Also yeah that Warrener clip is kind of out of context. Pinder was on his crusade of lobbying for the Flames to tank next year and get a McKenna lotto ticket, and saying to trade Ras to recoup picks and be worse next year. So then Warrener was getting annoyed and tongue in cheek saying "well if you wanna trade top-4 guys why not just trade Weegar?" And then I think he kinda doubled down on it and it didn't come out sounding great.

I've never heard them begrudge Weegar before, it's not like he's getting run out of town. Funny response from Weegar though, love it.

I sometimes muse about the NHL handing over the running of a team - managing, coaching, scouting, everything. - to a bunch of analytics nerds who don’t watch the game live, never played, never coached at any level, or do any of that other ‘traditional’ stuff. If they just made every decision from laptops at home based entirely on data and analytics. I’m genuinely curious how good that team would be.

My Flames podcasts:

1. Barnburner - best in-depth Flames analysis and debate. Great personalities, guests and interviews with former players and folks in the Flames “orbit”. I also enjoy when they talk about other sports, especially NFL. The weekly segment with Noodles is a must-listen. I just skip ahead when they do the non-sports stuff and play YouTube bloopers (which I can’t see in podcast form anyway).

2. Flames Talk - Pat and the guys are great. You get to hear directly from players/coaches etc. Yes it is a bit more “friendly” and corporate than then the others. But it’s the only one that’s really affiliated with the team. Again, Pat is a gem.

3. In the Dome - just two hilarious passionate Flames fans talking hockey. Can skew a bit negative towards Flames ownership/management but I enjoy their takes and game breakdowns. It’s like a little support group/therapy session for Flames fans. Especially when the Oilers were in the playoffs.

Love to hear any other Flames or general hockey podcast recommendations.

I wonder which team would be closest to that. Vegas?

Wasn’t that young GM in Phoenix a few years ago trying to run the team like that?

The Canes might be the closest

I can’t listen to much of it all. Maybe that’s just me being tired of sports talk in general, which just seems to be recycled discussions over and over. Boomer is a pro, I’ll give them that and he can carry a show. I kind of like Dreger when he is on as well. There are two dude bro’s that sometimes do afterburner. I kind of like them, because they don’t take themselves nearly as seriously as most of the others and can be funny.

Speaking of bad radio, 960 was playing a Krahn sitdown with Vernon. I guess what I heard was part 2. That was embarrassingly bad, Krahn saying he was a huge Vernon fan but then had to ask who they played in the various rounds 89. In general, he showed zero preparation and could not talk in complete sentences.

No, that’s not how it works. If you actually read my comment, you’d have realised I was crystal clear in calling them both “descriptive, not predictive” and “what’s happening on the ice.”

You can actually quantify everything that IS HAPPENING ON THE ICE because it’s already real, it already exists. Your ability to do that isn’t some magic trick where you then get psychic ability and can accurately predict what will happen in the next year, game, or even shift, so that’s a really silly counter argument.

You argument is basically the same as saying “goals don’t tell us how successful someone was in scoring goals because they can’t predict how many goals they’ll score next year” lol
