That is a truly massive difference. It means that to measure their accomplishments in equivalent terms. you would have to multiply Ovechkin's totals by 12%. In other words, in Gretzky's era, Ovechkin would be at 999 goals. It's truly amazing that he's so close to breaking the record in the same number of games as Gretzky.
I don't understand how you got those numbers.

My simple way shows
Gretzky has 894 goals in 1487 for 0.6 gpg
Ovechking has 892 goals in 1485 for 0.6 gpg

How did you come about your numbers?

He's showing overall goals per game to normalize for the fact that there were just more goals period in Gretzky's era. Which means the fact that their goals per game, is identical, is even more impressive for AO.

Question i have is I wonder how many more seasons he can keep up the pace. Or that he wants to keep playing. He’s still scoring like a top player with go drop off. Incredible at his age.

I thought the rumour was that once he broke the record he wanted to go play in Russia.

That was years ago, most recent quote was he would finish his current contract in Washington. I imagine Washington becoming legit cup contenders and him still performing at such a high level influences his decision going forward as well.

Selfishly, I would love to see him continue to get 1-year deals with the Caps to continue playing while he's still producing. Would be remarkable to see a guy in his early 40s scoring 35-50 every year.

I'd do it just out of spite.

*Clapper from his office*

"Yeah...we'll challenge that one. Why not?"

Yeah, he should go for 1,000 and chase another cup. The Caps is a top team now and a contender for at least another 3 or 4 years.

Please let 895 be clean and not open to controversy.

Pretty is also a bonus, unlike Jarome's 500th.

If it isn’t a one timer I’ll be disappointed.

Even if it’s an obvious good goal. I want to see a coach challenge it just to be a dick.

He's either leaning into his heel turn or he's too drunk to notice.
