I think the Hawks probably consider 23 year old Spencer Knight as their goaltender of the present and future.

Yeah you don't see teams trade out of the top 10 with a pick in the late teens and 20's. If you want to move up at the top of the draft you pretty much need a pick within 4 spots of where you're trying to get.

Oh yeah, I forgot they acquired that guy. The early returns on Knight aren't great, but goalies are voodoo as they say. Still lots of potential there.

The formula I’ve seen for trading up is the 10th overall pick is worth 3x the 30th overall pick, and a 1-3 overall pick is worth 2x or 3x the 10th overall pick.
So yeah, trading up is costly.

Maybe posted already, but I see it reported that Duclair is taking a leave from the Islanders after Roy ranted about him publicly.
There is probably a good chance they will want to dump that contract somewhere.

Sure, we just need Ritchie from them to take on the contract.
We can even give them a winger to replace Duclair
To CGY: Duclair, Ritchie
To NYI: Sharongovich, W/D prospect

Probably true, but I think they're also considering Soderblom could be that guy. With how much goalies fluctuate year, never a bad idea to have more than 1 egg in the basket.

Duclair for Sharangovich is a win for the Flames so not sure how they are getting Ritchie as well. Obviously Parekh is not the D prospect that would move so not sure we have the piece?

I actually though Marner played centre more than he does.
Players look at things like livability and city as well as what might be coming up. People like to crap on Calgary's ability to attract talent but the league knows there a state of the art building coming and Calgary is a top city as far as outside the rink and is very family friendly. I think Calgary is more attractive a destination then people give credit for.

Not sure I agree. Sharangovich started the season injured and I feel could potentially have some lingering issues, or alternatively was never able to get up to speed after missing the early part of the season. A preseason injury happens at arguably the worst time of the year (massive jump in speed and intensity from preseason to where players are at a few weeks into the season) and can put a player behind the eight ball for geting his feet under him. Especially for something that was characterized as a lower body injury and could still have some lingering effects. I saw somewhere that Sharangovich's skating advanced stats are quite a bit lower than where he was last year which to me gives pause to not give him a chance to rebound. Even with his 30+ goals last year, he was slow to get going which I think means he might be the type of player that values that early season need to shake offseason rust off.
On a value level, getting Duclair at 29 years old with 3 years left on a 3.5 million per year deal compared to Yegor at 26 with 5 years left on a 5.75 million per year deal makes sense if we believe Yegor is cooked and last year was an anomoly. You're not getting Ritchie on top of that. But it does feel like selling low on Sharangovich, I'd like to give him some more runway before moving on and Flames have the cap space to be patient.

You are still ignoring the hockey piece of it. What are we selling him on?
Going after big name free agents is pretty much putting the cart before the horse.

IIRC, I believe that Dvorak centered Tkachuk and Marner when they won the memorial cup. Marner is not a center.
As for selling low on Sharangovich - I doubt the Flames move him. He hasn't used his shot in a while which is strange, but he has a lethal shot. For a team that is as deprived of goals as the Flames, and with the reasonable explanation that Sharangovich's injury either stalled his season this year, or perhaps may even been a nagging one that he is playing through, I agree with Rasta above that it is probably best to see what happens next season. I wasn't exactly a big fan of re-signing him so soon, BUT it has the potential to end up being a very team-friendly deal if he rebounds to being a 30 goal guy again. He has that shot.

I could see Vancouver making a play for Marner now with Miller gone and Boeser possibly as well.
Is there any truth to the rumour that Marner doesn't want to play in Canada again, if not for the Leafs? It was stated by a few people, but I wasn't sure if it was actually a well sourced rumour.
