Personally I wouldnt do that trade this year. However.

Lets say a frondell or obrien fell to Montreals pick. I think flames might consider it.

I have said a few times we should be converting some of our lw depth for centers if the opportunity came up.

don’t get me wrong here he is one if my favourite prospects and i think we will be hearing I Dar Suniev!! a lot over the next couple of years.

Im a big fan of Bader's models to help project players, it adds some fun to the speculation, but it's certainly not etched in stone that Suniev (or Coronato for that matter) can't achieve more than he predicts.

Case in point, using Farabee as a comparable to Coronato in terms of point projection makes them look like very similar players but I think we would all agree that they play a very different style of game and Coronato is a much deadlier shooter. So saying that Farabee has a low chance of being a star so therefore Coronato likely won't be just because.. numbers.. is just a fallacy. Same with Suniev, when everything we've heard from his coaches is that he's extremely driven and motivated to make the NHL and has seemingly improved every single year. Not saying it's super likely, but it's very early for those conversations.

Would love to see Coronato and Suniev on a scoring line together at some point though, exciting times!

Kid speaks well. Definitely going to benefit being around strong leaders like Coleman, Kadri and Huberdeau. Hopefully Iginla takes him under his wing a little bit too. Worked well with Klapka.

If this years missed playoffs sinks in deep and stars align and prospects are ready earlier than projected well be like A young sabers team except we have goaltending already and 2 - 4 defenceman thatĺl make a good case to be here.

Future is bright here. Very bright.

1 offseason of Matty training with her has paid off in spades, he's one of our fastest skaters now and uses it to his advantage everywhere.

I do think that is where the real importance lies, not so much in getting actual playing time. Though I bet Huska throws him in at least once.

Perfect example of how fans massively over-rate prospects, relative to current players.

Drives me nuts listening to the idea that prospects develop in a linear curve. Just because someone is a 3rd round pick and their NHLe or D+1 or whatever projects them as such and such doesn't mean much to me.

Once they're drafted into our prospect pool it doesn't really matter anymore where they were drafted - that doesn't mean anything any more. It's how they develop and fit into our systems and team, and it's usually not something that happens in a linear fashion. Everyone develops differently at different rates, then add in things like having Fujita help with skating and things like that and you never know.

Otherwise how do you explain 4th and 6th round picks turning into excellent players? Player development seems to be coming along for us, hopefully we can continue to draft well and get players that end up useful for us. But I tend to take everything all of us fan 'experts' come up with a grain of salt.

That is nice and all, but he needs to play not just 1 game. Other teams are playing their players. He got a big deal for a reason for a 3rd round pick. 1st round picks don't get different coaching and training.

So happy, I have been a fan of Suniev since we drafted him.

I hope that he gets at least 1 game so he can spend the offseason with firsthand knowledge of the level he is going to need to be at. The same with the rest of our prospects too, lets rotate a lot through and use the rest of the season helping them develop.

If he's ready to play, he'll play. End of story. I don't see any reason why after a few skates and practices, Suniev can't bump Pospisil, Klapka or even Rooney out of the lineup for at least 3-4 games. Same goes for Parekh if he is brought up soon as well.

It would be a different story if the Flames were in the thick of a race here, but the reality is that it's over.
