Should have been a Flame for life - Kadri has been great but I wish they found a way to keep Monahan too

Monahan should have been a flame for life.
We FINALLY draft a 1C, then ride him into the absolute ground and trade him before he can properly heal... only for him to heal and become a 1C again.
It's extremely aggravating!

It's great to see things falling in place for him in Columbus. Hopefully he can now stay healthy enough to put some long seasons together. Just goes to show how banged up he must have been in Calgary for his play to decline so much.

Besides the obvious like Iginla, Monahan is right next to a guy like Regehr who should have been Flames for their entire careers.

Wait... if "getoverit" thanks a post, is that good or bad? What happens when "this post is terrible" reads a post they actually think is really good?

I'm sure the uh... *clears throat*... uh... folks in Vegas would have found a way.
What are those four magic letters again?

Flames should have just sat him for a year like SJ did with Couture. Next year Couture will come back healthy and that team will be at least where Montreal is at this year in the rebuild

Monahan would have to agree to it. And since he was fighting for his next contract, why would he agree to that?
He was healthy at the start of the season.
Plus he was a UFA at the end of the season. If Calagry was interested, they could have attempted to sign him.
Keeping him would not have guaranteed they still have him. He's been a UFA twice since then.

TBH the majority here (myself included) were ready to run him out of town his last season here. In hindsight it obviously would have been best to keep him and at least deal him for a haul once he was fully healed. Instead, we got hosed to trade him away and we'll feel that pain come to fruition this draft. Sigh.
Super happy to see him do well. Still sad thinking about what could have been with him and Johnny playing together again

I wasn't one who wanted him gone, but I do think it's interesting that almost no one acknowledges the "he was only ever a Gaudreau by-product" and "I'll drive him to the airport myself" posts that were pretty prevalent. You admit it, at least, but there's a bunch who conveniently forget those facts.

How could the Flames deal him for a haul, he was injured most of the final year of his contract. People forget he re-signed in Montreal when he could have gone anywhere

I just hope CBJ finds a way into the playoffs. MTL are getting our 'Monahan pick' this year, screw'em. Their 'punishment' for taking our 1st to get him is Monahan helping CBJ boot them out of the playoffs this year. Poetic justice.
Plus, screw the Habs.

They should “Cam Neely” him. Only let him play half the games and count on him for a goal a game.

Monny with another one tonight. Tied the game at 1-1 just three minutes after MacKinnon opened the scoring.
...but COL went off, and won 7-3.
