Well, they would have to be open to signing here, and it looks like both players wanted opportunity.

For Holloway he would look at Calgary and see, Huberdeau, Coleman, Zary, Coronato, Sharangovich, Mantha, Kuzmenko, Pospisil all on the depth chart. Would he be afforded the same opportunity here as he has in St. Louis? He was buried in Edmonton, and he may have been buried here as well.

Broberg probably had a shot at a top 4 role, but I am not sure if they both went as a package deal or what.

Agreed.
He has that muffin shot to the goalies chest his whole career.

At least he did not turtle this game.
How your Captain can ever turtle agiainst an Oiler player is beyond me. It was Corey Perry of all people....stand up and wrestle with him....your the Captain of the Flames man up.

Pretty good way of looking at this. Whats crazy is that even this rudimentary method shows its a goal. Sad that the "technology" the league has can't even compete with this.

He was attacked with no chance of fighting back, what are you talking about. Perry is a useless piece of scum.

I do think the Oilers would have matched if the Flames were behind the offer sheets and would be a better team for it so I am happy with how it went down

Coleman - Last 24 games played, 1 goal, 2 assists, 26.67 GF%, 47.75 xGF%
Backlund - Last 20 games played, 1 goal, 2 assists, 20% GF%, 47.71 xGF%

They really haven't done there jobs well for a while now, and at the most important moments of the season to boot. We needed these guys to step up and lead by example and unfortunately they were unable to do that.
They've expired.

And today Holloway has more value than all those players.

That is not exactly a murder's row of offensive talent.

Right, but it also took at Sharangovich and Mantha injury to get a permanent spot for a guy like Coronato.

You are assuming that Halloway would do what he is doing in St.Louis here, lets not forget we turned a 115 point player into a 55 point player. Look at the 2 flyers that we have acquired. You can't just assume he would be a fit here and exceed here, most likely would have produced at the same level as he did in Edmonton.

Farabee was on a 12 goal pace in Philly and is on a 10 goal pace in Calgary.

Frost has not produced here, but he has been given every opportunity to put up points.

Might be a reason why the Flyers gave both guys up for a 2nd round pick and a couple of throw ins.

Huska did not turn Huberdeau into a 55 point player. Darryl Sutter did. Huska has gotten more out of what was looking like an albatross of a contract.

Good to know the crate full of those 1998 manager special webcams at Staples was put to use by somebody. Just wish it wasn't as the goal crease cams for the NHL.

Nor would I suggest that's the only factor. There are several reasons why this franchise wouldn't be at the top of the list.

Read what I actually said and if helpful use the quote feature.
Ypu are right, I made your statement about Montgomery.

You said coaches wouldn't come here "Particularly if they build a relationship for firing coaches every 2 years. Which they already do." You did single out coaches only lasting two years as at least a main factor why coaches won't come here. Which is BS, and which Montgomery going somewhere that KO'd someone 22 games into a new contract.

It's like when people say teams get blacklisted for treating players poorly. That's BS too. Money talks,

Haven't we heard that Conroy tried to offer sheet him but he chose St. Louis?

This year was approximately 83% more fun than it had any right being. It was great to see some of the kids take steps forward, some bigger than others. And the vets that chose to stay were bought in from day 1.

Maybe we're due for a step back next year, maybe not. Maybe we'll move ahead if Parekh is on the club and Wolf stays in a groove. Maybe we'll take a step back if the vets lose a step faster than the kids gain one. Who knows?

Either way, I'm glad we don't have a team and organization full of losers and quitters.

Premium coaches get paid. So they get to pick where they go based on other factors. I would theorize that organizations that are known "coach killers" aren't considered top spots.

I don't know how you can say with such certainty that it's BS.

Coaches will weigh several factors:
- Quality of the team and roster, including presence of star players
- Where the team is in the winning cycle
- Resources available including the degree to which the team spends to the cap and invests in other ways that don't count towards the cap
- Quality of life in the city they are moving to
- Relationships already in place with players, staff and management (including the GM)
- Degree of autonomy they will have
- Level of influence they will have in roster construction
- Sense of how much time they will be given to implement a successful program. This is where if they see a team firing coaches ever 2nd year, it plays against them
- How much they get paid

Like any of us weighing a job opportunity, it doesn't just come down to the money. And it will differ from coach to coach.

But I would sugget for the top end coaches, they are getting paid no matter what. So then the other factors come into play.

I am sorry did you not just say Huska turned Frost and Farabee into bums and we did the same to Huberdeau?

Sutter had 1 good offensive year, otherwise he has grinded his players.
