the blue jays have released sp victor zambrano
http://tsn.ca/mlb/news_story/?ID=213179&hubname=
now who is left from last off season in the pitching department?
Zambrano, Ohka, and Thompson have all been released
good to see our young arms step up to get rid of these older washed up pitchers

Yup, I agree. They threw 3 darts up on the board and none of them stuck. But - and we'll never know - perhaps those darts that dropped helped the younger darts work harder to stick.
Ugh, ok I'll stop now.

I am glad the Jays realized each of these pitchers would not work out and released them sooner the better.
Of course having McGowan and Marcum pitch so well made it possible to cut ties with Zambrano, Ohka and Thompson.

Well no need to pull punches....but thus far it's been a forgettable offseason for J.P. The only acquisition he made who worked is Matt Stairs so far. Even if Wells and Thomas pick it up in the second half about the best the Jays are going to do is a 86-76 record. Considering how much they upped the payroll and the fact that the team will have to perform well in the second half to match last year....not good. Yes they've had injuries, but can you really say that without the injuries the team would be 10 wins better which is what they'd need to be in the playoff picture right now.

Tough to say. The starting pitching injuries have had at best a minimal impact. If Chacin was in there would he really be that much better than McGowan - who would not have been given a chance without Chacin being out?
How many more saves would Ryan have over Acardo? Not many I don't think.
The biggest injury has likely been to Lyle Overbay and Reed Johnson - but even then that maybe ads 3-4 wins. So 5-6 wins overall MAYBE?
The bottom line is that their core players (with the exception of Rios) have all been not good, including Doc who has a decent record but hasn't actually been that good.
But you're right, the only good moves have been Stairs, and bringing back Johnny Mac.

i agree. when your big addition turns out to be stairs, it is a brutal offseason. this team just isn't there yet, and taking experimental guys on like those mentioned really isn't how you're going to move up in this division and league anyways. oh well. at least some of the guys that were already here have really matured into players that you can have confidence in going out there every fifth day. that's definitely nice, and who knows, the way that things are going, towers may acually pan out as a major leaguer. i hope i didn't jinx him there. oh well. here's to a solid second half.

ESPN's coverage of this thing is BRUTAL, looks like rios is going to make the second round with his 5 HR's in the first round
EDIT: Rios through to round 2.

Speaking of brutal, anyone else think Boomer is tired and dated. I'm not interested by his oh so witty nicknames and backbackbackback stuff anymore.

I especially enjoyed how Rios was a "no name player". Yeah, he was selected to the All Star team last year you donkeys.

For once a Blue Jay doesnt embarass themself in a HR derby.
Glaus, Green, Delgado, Carter have all shat the bed before. I cant remember a Jay ever making the final.
Nice showing Alex!

And for people who complain about the NHL not being on ESPN, that telecast was a good reason why I'd rather it is on Versus.
I almost hurled when Pujols was introduced by Berman as "Albert 'Winnie the Pooh'-jols."
