Thankfully these bubble teams they're playing out east will be desperate. Those are tougher games than they might normally be given the circumstances.

Not quite because the Flames can't catch the Wild in tiebreaker.

Flames go 9-0, Wild go 6-1 and both teams have 100 points but Wild likely have the tiebreaker (unless they win 4 of those 6 games in OT)

Flames control their own destiny though because if they win out get to 100 points they are obviously going to pass someone.

STL losing at home to Detroit isn't likely of course, but neither was the Flames winning tonight.
Detroit has a lot to play for in that game. And they've been winning some unlikely ones on the road lately.

Also it's been 84 years and the bounces have to let up at some point for the Blues.

fair enough, so they need another 1 point swing on the while to control their destiny

Its not run the table and hope your opponent losses all their games territory though

The Frost line was fine. The shot counter short changed us in the 1st. The Kadri line didn’t provide the spark but they have also carried the team the last bit. Backlund was ok and Farabee had a chance which like usual he let the goalie make an easy save.

It’s about time the 4th line did something. They have been terrible. When you need scoring you need every line.

I always thought we need to improve our 4th line because this team need every line play well and has a certain role to be a little bit better team. So I wanted to change Rooney and try a younger faster player and who can win some puck battles in the 4th line centre.

That’s not what controlling their own destiny means. Minnesota can get to 102, St.Louis 101 and Calgary 100. Calgary also doesn’t hold any tie breakers. You could say the reverse of what you just said that if Minnesota wins out they control their own destiny because they are obviously not going to be caught. Then repeat for St.Louis. Those two are more true than the Calgary version.

They probably still feel a sense of security given the point cushion that currently exists.

Games played though is creating a bit of a mirage.

maybe, they have 4 wins in their last 10 games though and should have been desperate all along. They were lucky to get a point tonight.

Flames don't control destiny just yet.

They can max out at 100 points. Blues can max out at 101.

If Flames beat the Wild but Minny wins every other game, then they finish with 100 and have the tiebreaker on the Flames.

STL 101
Minny 100
CGY 100
(minny tiebreaker)

It's semantics at this point with this many games left, but from what I can see, technically the Flames still don't control.

Maybe I'm missing something.

FFS. I hate this team so much. Not really. More like I hate to love to hate to love this team so much. Oh well, after 40 some years of cheering for this team, I should be used to it. One cup and two other good runs…yeesh. Yet, I’m still here with my Flames hat and flames shirt on for every game. Can’t and never will cheer for losses.

Yep, that was a gross lucky bounce with 2mins left to get them to OT. Frustrating.

So if we win the head to head and go 6-2 in the rest of the games, the Wild would need 8 points in 6 games.

Their next 3 games are against NYR & NYI in a playoff race, and then the Stars. If they go 1-2 against these 3, they can still go 3-0 against the rest and get in.

The other 3 games are against the Sharks, Canucks, and Ducks. With the Canucks probably not playing for anything by then.

It’s hard but we need the Wild to go 0-2-1 at best against the next 3 opponents and we could then really see this playoff chase happen.

There is zero reason to cheer for losses right now anyway...

Or law of averages finally gets its hands on St. Louis.

Luck is part of the game. We are lucky Nelson shot didn’t cross the line.

Flames are like the Black Knight of the NHL this year - they just won't accept that they're beaten. Still a very tall order for them to make it, but at least we can look forward to them keeping the pedal down until the math says conclusively it ain't possible no more. And even then, I'm not sure the math will stop them either.

Good on them. Such a rag-tag bunch.
