Three reasons I hate Sportsnet:

1) Oiler fans - -can't do much about that
2) terrible quality
3) they black out so many games - can't watch any of the other Cdn teams (except the greasers)

#1 and #3 aren't going to change, but I was hoping a new channel/crew would bring new cameras. I guess we can hope that the new building will get new cameras.

Same horrible experince, but at least a better picture - is that too much to ask?

With Amazon in the mix, figure they'll get something with the new Canadian deal too.
Bell (TSN) will continue with regional telecasts, no national games. Sportsnet will continue with exclusive English national telecasts.

Sportsnet has increased its national coverage of the Canucks, Flames, and Oilers through out the current contract. The Alberta teams have approximately 65% to 75% of their games nationally televised for some seasons. Rogers alliance with TVA Sports boosts that percentage even higher.

Blackouts are a NHL thing. Not a Sportsnet thing.

TSN has regional broadcasts for Winnipeg and Montreal. Those are blacked out to outside markets as well.

I don't like Sportsnet much either, but I can't blame them for blackouts when its a NHL rule.

TSN also has the Ottawa and Toronto.

Wouldn’t that most likely put them in a position to no longer be losing money?

My understanding was Rogers was losing money because they were paying the NHL too much for the rights to broadcast NHL games. Doubling the amount they pay for those rights would cause them to lose more money, not less.

It increases the profile of the entire network, that's why it's really advantageous for them to keep the NHL.

Close to the same, but then consider that there are only 7 Canadian teams driving it in Canada and 25 in the U.S.

This is the NHL board of governors we’re talking about. Cash now beats everything. It’s why we’ll probably have a 36 team league by 2035.
