Say we end up 16th from the bottom but win the lottery and get pick #6.

Does that still go to the habs?
No. We get the pick.

After the draft lottery. If the Flames win the lottery, the Habs get the FLA pick.

Squinting with the glass half full view point. If the Flames can win back to back and the Wild and Blues lose their games. Flames will have taken the magic number down 3. If Minny also happens to lose to the NYR, the magic numbers will be down to 8 for both. Flames will have 8 games left, Minny and STL 6.

At that point the Flames would be 84 points, 3 back of both teams, and have 2 games in hand. That is the perfect storm that needs to happen for the Flames to wake up on Wednesday and still be in the thick of things.

^ The Flames need to go 8-2 to make the playoffs, maybe 7-2-1 gets them there.
The Flames need to go 2-8, or win the lottery to get a top 10 pick.

94 points IMO.

Flames go 7-3-0 And the Wild would have to go 3-5-0, with Flames winning the Head to head match up.

Wild going 3-5-0 isn't that crazy to me....

@ Devils - Loss
@ Rangers - Loss
@ Islanders - Win
Stars - Loss
Sharks - Win
Flames - Loss
Canucks - Loss
Ducks - Win

Something like that and them finishing with 93 points doesn't seem impossible but with Kaprizov and Erikson-Ek returning soon that's tough.

Statistically it's like a 15% chance of happening...but hey it's still a chance!

Wild are about to get Kaprizov & Eriksson-Ek back, yeah it seems unlikely they will collapse down the stretch to me.

lol - Seems like we were typing the same conclusion around the same time

Have to factor in that the elite teams will be less motivated/resting players prior to playoffs too, and they just beat the 2nd best team in the league ( caps)

Unless they win the lottery, the hoops you have to jump through to get 6 teams to pass them would be quite the feat if the Flames went 2-8-0. To get to 85 points:

OTT 0-8-1
VAN 2-6-0
CGY 2-8-0
UTA 3-4-1
MON 4-5
NYR 4-4
CBJ 5-5
DET 5-3-1
------------
NYI 5-3-1
ANA 6-2-1
PIT 7-0-0
BOS 8-0-0
PHI - can only get to 83 if the go 7-0-0
Buffalo 8-0-1
SEA - can only get to 84 if they go 8-0-0

I have decided that the Most "Flames" finish to the season is going to be finishing 9th in the West with 90 points, and New Jersey and Montreal making the Playoffs with 89 and 87 points respectively.

Flames actually finish 3 spots ahead of Montreal in the Standings but because the way the NHL playoffs and draft picks work the Flames give up 16th OV to Montreal, Montreal has their own 17th OV pick from being the lowest rank playoff seed, and the Flames end up getting 18th OV from New Jersey.

Montreal takes one of the centers we all want with the Flames own pick, right before the Flames pick with the Devils pick and it makes us all very Angry lol.

Edit: Florida also has fewer regulation wins than LA and Tampa Bay - so right now that pick would be 23rd OV as long as they don't make the conference finals.

Yeah, I don't want the scenario where the pick Montreal get is directly ahead of the Flames. I think that will make things worse.

It's going to be ahead of the Flames, isn't it better if it's right before?

Logically it is better if it is just ahead, because that would mean the Flames pick they relinquished is right beside the pick we got from NJ. I just think it may be inflict some more PTSD if a player we really want or drops get selected right before. It will just cut a bit deeper. Just sometimes the may the sports mind works.

If it plays out that Montreal gets picks 16 & 17 and the Flames pick from New Jersey is 18. Hopefully the Habs take the Jacob Zboril and Zach Senyshyn of this draft snd leave the Barzal/ Connor for the Flames.

I thought it would be lower, but after StLs 9 game streak, and the fact that most of them have games vs SJS / Ana. I think the number to dance will be between 94-98, likely around 95+. So the Flames pretty much need to go somewhere in the range of 7-2-1 or better. and probably need to pad their RW in that time frame, especially against Min.

Right now my best guess would be

Edm 100
Min 97
Stl 95

Cgy 92
Van 90

Surely we can at least live in a world where the Flames get the pick right before the Canucks and take their guy out from under them.
